I forgot about these...

I also paid $60 for a copy of Coil's Love's Secret Domain and another $50 for Pop Will Eat Itself's debut when they were out of print.

I think I spent about $30-35 on a Dinosaur Jr. Japanese import once. It's never a good idea, I found it later for $15. With the Internet, and access to so many people and stores, I don't think it's a good idea to spend that much money on an album unless it's a collectable of some kind.

Joao Gilberto - The Legendary Joao Gilberto

which compiles his first three albums on to one disc. Its rare and OOP as is each album which it is compiling. Joao's first disc, Chega de Saudade, included in its entirity is generally credited with inventing Bossa Nova.

Here's AMG's writeup:

Quote:
It is difficult to overstate or overhype the importance of this CD, for it exhaustively documents the starting point of bossa nova in Brazil prior to the global craze. The building blocks are solidly in place — Joao Gilberto's highly distinctive, pioneering acoustic guitar rhythms, his precisely enunciated vocals (recorded not too closely for a change!), the stripped-down samba-based percussion, Antonio Carlos Jobim's extraordinary songs, and most tellingly on many tracks, Jobim's spare, often-copied backdrops and countermelodies for strings, winds and horns that are so much a part of his compositions. We can eavesdrop on the exact beginning of the bossa nova movement with the 1958 single containing Jobim's "Chega De Saudade" and Gilberto's "Bim Bom"; one can easily see why this quietly revolutionary record hit the Brazilian music scene like a silent cruise missile. Moreover, the second single was "Desafinado," a fully formed masterpiece long before it became an international hit, with Gilberto producing a precision-cut gem of vocal pinpointing. Along with the singles, there are three albums of material squeezed onto one CD, 38 tracks in all, of which only a dozen surfaced in the U.S. on LP at the time. In addition to Jobim's songs, there are plenty of first-rate contributions by Gilberto, Dorival Caymmi, Ary Barroso, Carlos Lyra, and other writers. And perhaps most importantly, besides being historically indispensible and an extraordinary deal for the consumer, this music is an absolute pleasure to hear.

My winning bid :rave: was $61.00. Like most of these type rarities, bids doubled in the last 20-30 minutes. Now I have to decide whether I trust myself to set foot inside Amoeba tonight to see Spoon play. I really can't justify spending much more on music for awhile.

I've half-heartedly looked for No New York on and off for 8 years. Never wanted to pay near what you did, though.
Can't imagine what it goes for these days.

I think I dropped $46 on a 2-disc Pearl Jam live set back in 93 or 94. I came to my senses soon after and I don't think I've ever come near that again.

$65 on Coldcuts Journey by DJ

Got reissued including it's first proper US release about 18-24 months later

But it could've been worse. It had gone for over $80 a couple of times leading up to my purchase & that was from the UK, I bought mine off a Le Habitant of Quebec. So cheaper price & shipping

Same here...it was Quest, import from Japan. I was in high school and obsessed, paid $30. It's not real great. Thought about selling it on ebay recently but I saw one on there that was listed for about 8 and didn't even sell.

Back in the day (the early 90's) i guess $30 was the going rate for import or bootleg CD's

Primus - Master of Puppies
The Pixies - Black Hunter
The Pixies - Complete B-Sides vol.3 (cant remember the exact name because somebody stole it)
Pearl Jam - Early B-sides/live (ditto)

I bough a couple of Bauhaus live boots on vinyl but i can't remember how much i paid. Probly too much.

A question for you e-Bay buyer/sellers: Do people still pay top dollar for Bauhaus/Tones on Tail/Dalis Car/Love And Rockets vinyl? If so, I should open up the floodgates and make a mortgage payment or two....

<----loves Redlands more than old goth records

that part is fucking awesome. I had it memorized at one time...

I only have this burned. aside from this and Head to Toe, I think I have all the Breeders EPs/singles.

I'd look through my collection and see what I've paid the most for, but this post is just sort of a break from studying, so...

I've paid upwards of US$50 for some MFSL stuff during my insane period.

I'm selling some of those now.
