So people are saying that interleague play is dull. How about this (as suggested by Chris Dimino).

Instead of playing by home rules during interleague games why don't they play away rules. This is to say, use the DH @ NL parks and pitchers bat @ AL parks. I know the DH sucks and should be banished, but that is not going to happen. I think AL fans woudl enjoy seeing NL rules. I knwo I would not mind seeing the DH in the ATL.

Discuss.

Dimino is the man, but I think baseball's main problem (from my persepctive) is that tinkering and such like interleague play in general just detracts from what made the game great.

Leave well enough alone...or change it back to no interleague play. Or only against a historic rival or whatever (i.e. Subway Series, Angels v. Dodgers, Tejas v. Houston, etc...)

or, better yet, keep fucking around and go the way of hockey, like you deserve.

i enjoy seeing the east coast teams, and how when the Yankee's or boston or Baltimore play in philly all the people from those cities who live in philly now come out of the woodwork . . . that's fun.

but i don't really care about interleague play one way or the other.

yes, because, they have never fucked with game before; like lowering the mound, the DH (now 33 years old and apparently not ruining the game) winding the baseball tighter, free agency etc.

the problem with baseball is simps like George Will who romance about something that isnt there. Idiots.

Seriously. Can you imagine basketball without the 3-pointer? Footaball with leather helmets. Change is what makes sports great.

oh and interleague is painless. with free agency and espn, there is no mystery anymore. Plus it gives franchises like the Royals an opportunity to make some coin.

I never said I was pining for the good ole days, or that they ever existed. From the gutter to the stars, this country was never innocent.

So, I guess adding the "Automatic 10 pointer spot" in basketball is advisable?

As is making pass defense illegal in football.

I for one thing aluminum bats and some kind of "zero gravity dome" would make baseball much more exciting for the average fan.

It is the constant tinkering, which this falls into, which makes people think that the ship is without a captain.

Is that the one where you pull the other guys shorts and punch him?
After we saw that, my brother made all nerf bball games under this rule, just to legitimize the beatings he threw me. Good times.

im trying to temper my Braves watching this year; I usually come out of the gate watching 5 or 6 games a week and get burned out by Sept. This year I'm just following them from afar. I mean, I'm still a huge Braves guy but I cant do this shit where I watch 100+ games in a season anymore.

geneskinner93: ur a moron on this sports argument
DiamondaveS500: no, I hate baseball, I hate all sports these days because of what they have become, and just because you are zzz-grade kool aid drinker doesn't mean we need to agree...its how i feel, eat a dick
geneskinner93: hahaha
geneskinner93: people like you are a dima dozen\
DiamondaveS500: yep, and sheep like you make our life miserable
geneskinner93: sheep?
geneskinner93: i see the big picture my friend
DiamondaveS500: sure Bud, do whatever you want with my game..its all cool
geneskinner93: yes b/c 15 years ago they were still wearing flannel uniforms
geneskinner93: bud ruined it all
DiamondaveS500: no, but it is stupid, incessant tinkering without looking to your "big picture" that fucks things up, genius
geneskinner93: sports are always tinkered with dave
geneskinner93: remember basketball before the 3 pointer?
DiamondaveS500: thanks, fuck stain,
geneskinner93: or when the hoop had a bottom?
geneskinner93: the peach basket?
geneskinner93: your callous insults tell me im right
DiamondaveS500: read what i posted
DiamondaveS500: done right change can be good, done wrong it diminishes the game
geneskinner93: no offense b/c i honestly respect what you think/know about sports but that post is stupid
DiamondaveS500: no, its the same as what you are saying
geneskinner93: you are making your argument better on im
DiamondaveS500: what is the difference
geneskinner93: no, your post is hyperbole
DiamondaveS500: of course, so was yours
geneskinner93: you are arguing here
geneskinner93: no
geneskinner93: i stated the facts
geneskinner93: sports are malleable
DiamondaveS500: you threw out leather helmets
geneskinner93: and business
geneskinner93: no, again, thats progression
DiamondaveS500: yeah, except that the Royals make no money
geneskinner93: and it represents how much football has changed
geneskinner93: well
geneskinner93: they are averaging 10,000 a game
DiamondaveS500: yes, the game keeps evolving
geneskinner93: and sell out 3 games
geneskinner93: when the cards come in
DiamondaveS500: but evolution and wholesale change for the fuck of it/stupid tinkering are two different things
geneskinner93: i mean whats the difference---its not 1952, players move at will, "Teams" dont mean shit
geneskinner93: whats the dif?
geneskinner93: they lowered the mound in what 1968 or 9, did it ruin the game?
DiamondaveS500: ok, so like I said, when's that exciting 10 point spot being put on the court?
DiamondaveS500: It'll make more money/add a new strategem
geneskinner93: i honestly used to hate the DH but now i dont care
DiamondaveS500: they lowered the mound because pitchers had too much of a leverage advantage, not to increase/decrease scoring
geneskinner93: hahahaha
geneskinner93: hahahahahahahahahahaha
geneskinner93: and they added the DH for a roster spot
geneskinner93: hahahahahahahahahahaha
geneskinner93: and they wound the baseball tighter and overlooked a race of steroid freaks because, uh, not sure
geneskinner93: hahahahahahahahahaha
geneskinner93: seriously
DiamondaveS500: now, they did that because the game was thisclose to the dod bird
DiamondaveS500: dod bird
DiamondaveS500: dodobird
geneskinner93: dont you think that the 3 point shot made college basketball what it is?
geneskinner93: that and expanding the tournament in '85
DiamondaveS500: yes, but the gargument can be made that it did something aesthetically unpleasing, especially in terms of skills development/lack thereof
geneskinner93: sure
geneskinner93: but everybody also says that the 80's is the pinnacle of basketball
DiamondaveS500: if the two can go hand in hand (business and change) I think that it can positive..my point about baseball is that they are doing WHATEVER THEY CAN TO HOLD ON
geneskinner93: well, why not?
geneskinner93: i mean basketball was DEAD in the 70's
geneskinner93: the NBA especially
DiamondaveS500: because it's going to come crashing down around them eventually..ala GA Democrats, to misuse and analogy
geneskinner93: they co-opted the ABA and streamlined the game
geneskinner93: ahh
geneskinner93: a lot of political change has come from third parties
geneskinner93: ya know?
geneskinner93: radical change can become mainstream
DiamondaveS500: no but change comes when one side is percieved to have ideas and another to be devoid of them,
geneskinner93: if it is in the best interest
DiamondaveS500: ala the entire switch of this country to republican
geneskinner93: i still dont see the hurt
geneskinner93: that is an equal fault
geneskinner93: the dems failed to matter at the same time as repubs were able to vocalise a message that sounded good to the everyman
DiamondaveS500: well, I mean, Nancy Pelosi is no Mr. Sam and A-Rod or whoemever is no Ripken
geneskinner93: says you
geneskinner93: at least on a-rod
geneskinner93: hes gar but hes one of the top 5 baseball players ive ever seen
geneskinner93: seriously
geneskinner93: nancy pelosi couldnt clip mr. sams toenails
geneskinner93: im threatening to copy/post this im panel
geneskinner93: in retrospect, i have to say that Dave you are right
geneskinner93: you know nothing about sports
geneskinner93: or anything except fundraising
geneskinner93: so, i hope you enjoy your Legionaires Disease
DiamondaveS500: fucking print it
geneskinner93: ha
geneskinner93: it reads like b.s. but im gonna
geneskinner93: i gotta delete the file transfers
DiamondaveS500: the thing is I KNOW you don't believe the heart of your argument
geneskinner93: why?
DiamondaveS500: you don't really think that everything that makes a dollar makes sense
DiamondaveS500: and that is the core of your argument
geneskinner93: no, i dont
geneskinner93: no, its not
DiamondaveS500: it may make dollars in the short run, but in the long run, it'll fuck you
geneskinner93: i believe change in sports is inevitable
DiamondaveS500: i never said it wasn't
DiamondaveS500: i argued for smart change and you gave me leather helmets as if the two are mutually exclusive
geneskinner93: i mean, protecting the QB in the NFL is kinda gar but the NFL with starting QB's instead of backups is REALLY GAR
DiamondaveS500: like the game changes enough organically that the powers that be can't completely ruin it
geneskinner93: i just dont see how interleague ruins baseball
DiamondaveS500: symptom of a larger problem
DiamondaveS500: "I know, everyone hates us, let's give 'em Mets v. Yanks to shut 'em up"
DiamondaveS500: and now that the luster has worn off, that the noveltyt no longer warrants it, youjust haveto retinker
geneskinner93: yeah, the "Yanks" and "Mets"
geneskinner93: you know "Yankee Randy Johnson"
geneskinner93: and "Met Carlos Beltran"

DiamondaveS500: like the game changes enough organically that the powers that be can't completely ruin it
geneskinner93: i just dont see how interleague ruins baseball
DiamondaveS500: wtf does that have to do with your argument...that after free agency it doesn't matter who plays who?
geneskinner93: no, i just dont get why you think interleague is bad
geneskinner93: ?
DiamondaveS500: i think that it is bad because it is a symptom of a larger problem, just as i said
DiamondaveS500: it was a gimick...now the gimic had worn off, and they have to fix the gimmic
geneskinner93: and the problem is that tinkering with sports is bad?
DiamondaveS500: shoulda left well enough alone in the first place
geneskinner93: why?
DiamondaveS500: you want to back me into an absolute when the problem is relative
geneskinner93: whats the difference?
geneskinner93: ok
geneskinner93: limit it to interleague play
geneskinner93: how has it hurt baseball?
geneskinner93: see, you could run numbers but players switch leagues so much that IT DOESNT MEAN SHIT
DiamondaveS500: it took away from the tradition that the only times these teams met was in the post season
geneskinner93: so, you are basing your assumption that fans care about the "teams"
geneskinner93: teams that will change players or even cities at the drop of a hat?
DiamondaveS500: why do you like the braves?
DiamondaveS500: because they are in ATL
DiamondaveS500: why do I hate Tom Glavine? cos he no longer plays for ATL
geneskinner93: i mean trading a hall of famer used to be off limits and now its regular
geneskinner93: ok, but what if you live in Milwaukee, Baltimore or Cleveland
geneskinner93: i mean i like the Braves but they have a lost a lot for me because of ownership
DiamondaveS500: OK, this is a good way to go
geneskinner93: i always knew Ted would keep them here
geneskinner93: it wouldnt shock me if AOL/TW moved them to B-ham tmrw
geneskinner93: but i enjoy seeing them play the Sox on a Friday
DiamondaveS500: because I hate the Ravens, and everyone who is a Ravens fan, simply because they turned around and ripped Cleveland's hearts out after the complained for nigh on 20 years that fucking Irsay did it to them
geneskinner93: as opposed to playintg the fucking Pirates
geneskinner93: exactly Dave
DiamondaveS500: i'm meh on it either way
geneskinner93: so whats the big deal
DiamondaveS500: the big deal is that people whould act right
DiamondaveS500: should
geneskinner93: you work in politics
geneskinner93: this is the worst hippie logic ive ever heard
DiamondaveS500: I KNOW
DiamondaveS500: I didn't say that I am right, I did say it is how I feel
geneskinner93: so, you and george will should unlock your tongues and get with it
DiamondaveS500: and you got some GGG Grade like Pagoda to carry your jock for you
geneskinner93: PEOPLE WHO DONT RESPECT YOU DONT DESERVE YOUR RESPECT
geneskinner93: remember Menken
DiamondaveS500: remember BILLY\

worse than AAA grade, better that ZZZ grade on a sliding alphabet scale.

You can assume here that I got mixed up in calling you "GG GAR" and "Sub Z Grade" ask Derris what any of this could possibly mean, easier explained in person.

Interleague is pretty popular with fans so its hard to say that its really a played out fad. Attendance is higher at interleague games than regular ones.

Personally, I like interleague. I don't get really all that hyped up about watching the Yankees play the Mets, probably because I haven't lived in the NY area in over 15 years. I do think its really cool though to get to see the Yankees play at Wrigley as they did last year or at Coors Field as they did last year or the year before (forget which). Lord knows those stadiums would be dust before the Cubs or Rockies made the WS. I'd imagine some NL fans might think it was pretty cool to see their team play at Fenway or Yankee Stadium. And I consider the Dodgers almost as much of a Yankee rival from all those 70's WS as I do the Redsox so having them come out and play Dodger stadium was really great also.

brilliant is a strong word. sounds like attaching a weak gimmick to a weak gimmick. interleague play is fine if your team isn't a contender. sucks when your division opponents get to face weak teams while you face stong ones.
