could not find a place to buy it today. i dld'd it earlier this evening. the quick sampling i had was impressive. all but 2 songs were fair to immediately affecting. when found i believe i will purchase this. overall the zaniness is a bit toned down but still resides.

i realize this thread may digress into sado-maso confessions or leanings, which i deem acceptable as well if one should offer such discussion.

I have a request (to everyone). Please type out the full name of the artist in the title of the thread so we don't have to wrack our brains or go searching to figure out what you're talking about. Thanks.

Sorry for being surly today, but it happens from time to time and I'm not going to buy Malkmus' new one unless there's some serious praise from people that I know have similar taste in music to me.

Dude?

If you have to wrack your brain, you probably don't want to click on the thread.

I have read some very positive things about this album, but am apprehensive to actually hear it based on the first two non-Pavement things. I just couldn't get into them.

I tried to find it, but had no luck. I thought the last one was pretty decent, and the bonus disc was very good. SM albums haven't worn very well for me though.

I click on a lot of threads when I have no idea what they're going to be about. I find out about a lot of new music that way (for example, Engineers, who I had never heard of before that thread, and unfortunately still haven't heard). It's just a request, and normally I wouldn't say anything, because in the overall scheme of things, it's trivial, but I'm easily annoyable today. Sorry.

That's why I'm apprehensive too. I just pulled out the first solo album and listened again, and it still doesn't do much for me (save for a couple songs). I think I may skip this one altogether.

no need to apologize. I can drop some unsolicited attacks, too. *hug*

I like this a lot. I really enjoyed the first one, was kinda meh on Pig Lib, so its a nice surprise. I'm a Malkmus/Pavement nerd.

Only one listen so far, but I'm fairly sure this will by favorite of his solo albums. The first 5 or 6 songs are great, with Pencil Rot my favorite so far.

I'm buying this today to put on the wall of the "office" of my new home. Sadly, all they have is the folded version. I deem it shweet.

Anybody else think that the opening section of "Loud Cloud Crowd" sounds like a Phish song? (I think "Brian and Robert" comes to mind).

Pretty ironic since Trey is such a huge Pavement fan.

Listening to it for the first time having bought it today.

The thing I like about Stephen Malkmus is he's actually comfortable with the fact that he's now a mature adult. No grasping to sound like a 'young person' for SM.

I think it's the best of the solo/Jicks albums. I'm really happy with this record. I had little to no expectations of it.

OK, after 8-10 listens, this is definitely my favorite Malkmus solo album, and a top 5 of '05 contender.

Haven't heard it yet. Not too worried about disliking it. It'll probably be good.
