I don't know if I agree with Conolly's assertion that DMZ failed because Flo and Eddie didn't understand how to produce 'em (nor do I agree that the Ramones started to suck after their second album). That DMZ debut is produced really well - but it was only fringely punk and/or new wave - and I think their strict adherence to '60s garage rock is simultaneously the band's strong point and the very thing that kept their album from selling. In short, in the late '70s they already sounded like a throwback to a previous era, whereas the Ramones, while mining that very same era (and earlier), came across as a quantum leap forward.

I'm on board. The Boston scene at the end of the seventies and early eighties was tremendous. You may want to check out The Outlets, whose material finally became available after 20 years.

Also, New Rose released a bunch of Boston bands in the mid-80's--Nervous Eaters, Classic Ruins, Willie Alexander.

i like the nervous eaters. much better than nervous norvous, though he had his charm. someone tell me about willie alexander....
