I know a lot of people like that. He has an extremely loyal fan-base.

I also agree with your signature.

Generally nobody falls into this category for me. The intersection between an artist's work and my interest is (and should be) temporary, because our perspectives are always in a state of flux. They change; I change. Of course, there's the rare occasions when an artist changes at approximately the same rate and in the same direction as myself (or take the singular example of the Beatles as a band that managed to coincide their evolution with that of an entire society) - right now Frank Black, Spoon, Ween, Rancid, and Joe Henry are among those bands (for me) - but my "loyalty" to them could end with the release of their next album.

All of these pretty much fall into that category, but I feel like I've been pretty loyal up until now. They've all put out some weaker stuff lately, but I still consider myself a fan.

1. Magnolia Elec. Co./Jason Molina/Songs: Ohia
2. Sonic Youth
3. Flaming Lips
4. Stereolab
5. Mouse on Mars

Nobody gets that kind of irrevocable devotion from me.

but as long as it is revocable, here's a current list...

Built to Spill
Radiohead

I'd say this qualifies as a good definition. Of course, none of my sentimental favorites have done that...

I will be trying to find the good in increasingly lousy REM albums as long as they keep churning 'em out, if that counts.

In no particular order and based on today's emotional state:

Elvis Costello
Cocteau Twins
Adrian Belew
XTC
Wilco
U2
R.E.M.
Sting/Police
Tom Waits
Warren Zevon

There are other favorites in heavy rotation (Bruce, Bowie, Roxy Music, Peter Gabriel, Fripp etc. etc.) but not as "sentimental", whatever the fuck that means. Ask me next week and the list is likely to be a bit different.

Wow, is that really what Donnie Iris is doing these days? He looks the same as he did in 1983.

That, and apparently he's opening for Blue Oyster Cult in Cleveland.

I want to move to western PA so I can get a mortgage from him.

Cornershop
Saturday Looks Good to Me
Blur
Sleater-Kinney
Apples in stereo

Tortoise

good grief that list is uncomfortably long but there's absolutely no way I could take off even one artist. and these are only extant ones...

Listened to it twice this week. Great pop songs. Blondie if she were born twenty years later.

He's King Cool, you know.

I wonder if his sales pitch includes the impossible-to-refuse offer of "some coffee, some tea, or me" he first popularized in "The Rapper."

They all have their clunkers, but for the most part I enjoy a good
portion of their work.

Man, that's pretty damn solid, Tommy!!! Neither Knopfler/DS nor Spoon have ever produced a clunker. Westerberg's only misstep was 14 Songs, and the only Wilco I don't really like is A Ghost is Born. Van The Man gets a lifetime pass, even though he hasn't done anything worthwhile since the Carter administration.

Oh, and I think the one artist that belongs on my list more than any other, in terms of this particular category, is...

Steely Dan

Becker and Fagen can do no wrong. Ever.
