Sparta Guitarist Leaves To Join The Mars Volta

Sparta guitarist Paul Hinojos has left the band to reunite with former At The Drive-In bandmates Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta.

Hinojos departure was announced May 26 on Sparta's website, giving little explanation for his leave from the emo-inspired quartet.

Hinojos replaces Jeremy Ward's, the band's "sound manipulator," who was found dead May 25, 2003 in his Los Angeles home after an apparent drug overdose.

A posting on The Mars Volta's website said, "Hinojos' role within the band will initially be confined to the offstage audio acrobatics that Ward had become renowned for," but he'll "eventually share the stage with his bandmates during live performances."

Sparta's website has assured fans they will not call it quits and the two remaining members, guitarist Jim Ward and drummer Tony Hajjar will continue recording the band's third album.

Sparta and The Mars Volta are off-shoots of At The Drive-In. The band called it quits in 2001 and the band split in half.

Are they going to call themselves "At The Drive..."? Or perhaps "...The Drive-In"?
