with such animals as Rick Derris and "Kweller".

Never seen them before. What am I to expect as far as set length, derivation from album versions, etc?

I'm pretty stoked, should be fun.

Now, if only it would stop raining.

Best to go without any expectations. I'll be curious to hear your reaction.

In other news, I quit my job, and I'm heading to Redlands after this post!

AKA -- FUCK ALL Y'ALL...aka tight dude, you still have that DAT that Busty was able to employ so well? I think you could make some new friends...

Derris will be passed out by the 3rd song, "Kweller" has been detained for warcrimes, and I hear the GBI is looking for you. Good luck.

Thanks, dad. I'll react tmrw: After hosting Bingo last nite, Spoon tonight but having to open both following mornings I should be punchy enough for a "reaction".

I was really just curious to know how long a set they played.

Well, sonny, when I saw them they played for about 90 minutes. Encored with a surprise (and great) version of the Stooges "Loose".

Hey at least it should be cooler than it was for the Decemberists, DEAR GOD! 1000 degrees in that place.

Yeah, looking forward to this. I really get the sense that I'm going to see a band at their peak.

Anyone know anything about The Clientele? They're opening.

I've seen Spoon once before opening for Superchunk and they played about 45 minutes with a cover of Wire's "The Lowdown". I expect a carefully chosen cover or two.

breathy, lush, atmospheric, gentle, moody

Never seen them, but should be "a nice relax grab a few drinks before Spoon hits it" band. If I remember correctly, their albums are not raucous at all. Live? I have no idea.

Clientele is good. I saw Spoon two years ago and they played a 1-2 hour set and were a great live band. You'll have a great night.

Spoon live= absolutely fantastic.

Derivation from album versions= IMO, sound even better live.

I've seen them live twice, but they were both at festivals, so I can't really say how long their set would be. I can't wait to see them in a couple of weeks.

Spoon live will make your fucking night. I can't wait to see these fuckers again. Britt is so charismatic live and just owns the fucking show. Can't wait to hear how the new songs are interpreted live.

This is how Gimme Fiction grew on me... hearing the new songs played live.

*EDIT: grammar

I think they're above average live, but not amazing. They sound great, but I actually think Brit Daniels isn't very charismatic at all.

My musings on this show:

Went to bar next to the club for some beers before the show. Clientele was finishing up when we got there but I didn't get to hear them.

Spoon were on point all night. They apparently were a little shell shocked from a really bad show the night before in Baton Rouge. Britt told the crowd that they just played bad and that they were really feeling the love tonight. It showed because they played tight as shit. They sounded fucking really good.

Nice mix of stuff from all of their albums. Some songs were done spot on perfect and others they did a bit differently. The one I remember was "Small Stakes" which they rocked out on with guitar and full band.

They covered Wire's "The Lowdown".

oldbulee, I agree with you. While they weren't Kiss or something on stage they just sounded so damn good and that's really all I ask of a band.......to bring it musically.

Fantastic band.

To wit: Very impressive show. They were incredibly tight and smooth. The sound was perfect. Honestly, some of the best, most well mixed, live sound I've ever heard.

All that to say this: Spoon are almost a little too smooth. Loosen up a little bit.

Also, a note on the crowd: when I don't notice the crowd, they must be a good crowd; thank you for not bothering me. With the exception of that fairy who's foot I stepped on and despite my sincere apologies felt like he needed to stare at me while I smoked. Get over yourself, softie.

Best part: When you can meet friends, have drinks, see a really great show and pull into the Redlands garage at exactly midnite on a Wednesday--that's money....
