I don't necessarily listen to certain music to be cool. I listen to what I like. However, I do confess to mentioning/discussing certain artists and not mentioning others at all, for the sake of coolness. Not often, though. When I have people over, my record collection is out for anyone to see. If my friends want to make fun of the fact that I have records by Jay-Z and Lisa Loeb, let them.

Plus, I'm still young. I could maybe be cool. Right? I don't have to face the depressing bring-downs of the real world, yet?

I can't figure out what people are more upset about in this thread:

1)being not cool (and/or old)

2)having someone question the sanctity of thier musical tastes, when it really shouldn't matter anyway

I don't really know the personalities on this board, but this seems to be half mastabatory fantasy and half excuse to slog on people for past transgressions against (once again) the sancitity of other members tastes.
Surely you can all do better, and if not caring what other people think about what you like to listen to is a revelation, ...
