FIFA will consider using an electronic microchip inside soccer balls at the 2006 World Cup finals if the technology proves successful.

The microchip, intended to confirm whether or not a ball has crossed the goal line, will be tested at the under-17 world championship in Peru.

Now this is a good use of technology! Similar technology should be applied to baseball to decide balls and strikes. I know the purists will disagree, but that sport is seriously fucked up by human perception (i.e. hungover umpires).

great idea...i think they should institute this in as many sports as possible. fuck baseball and their fake ideas about purity of the game...if they'll allow steroids, they can allow this.
