As you're aware, I go to a ton of shows. Average age is usually people in their 20's. So, when I attend a show whose average age is of people I probably graduated high school with, it's rather surprising. Kinda nice cuz it rekindles my faith that older people DO have good taste in music. (Yes, Radcliffe, Ayah, Harry and others are the exception.) It's still weird, though. Weird...but nice. With that said, the Go Betweens and Court and Spark were absolutely wonderful last night!

Prior to seeing them, I had read some positive reviews about Court and Spark but had never heard their music. So, I was eager to check them out. Sweet alt-country tunes that made me bob my head as I listened. Sorry to say, I can't provide you with a list of tunes they sang, but they sang their own version of Depeche Mode's "Policy of Truth". I wanted to buy one of their CDs, but didn't know which to start with. Maybe one of you can make a suggestion.

As for the Go Betweens, they performed for over 2 hours and gave 3 encores! Robert Forster came out looking very Bryan Ferry-ish in a black suit while Grant McLennan wore a casual type long-sleeved t-shirt and jeans. Sadly, the show wasn't sold out but the audience was obviously comprised of longtime fans (new ones too!). Singing over 20 songs, the band just kept on going and the audience kept begging for more. A superb show it was! The kind you walk out of feeling content that you've spent a perfect evening at.

Last night was the last date of their tour. If you were planning on catching them, sorry, you'll need to wait until their next tour. Unless, you happen to live or be in Australia (the motherland) in July -- that's where they're going to next.

This is a copy of their setlist. I hope the encore songs are right, if not, I'll try to correct them later:

Magic In Here
Born To A Family
Boundary Rider
Poison In The Walls
Make Her Day
Was There Anything I Could Do?
Finding You
Darlinghurst Nights
Draining The Pool For You
The Clock
German Farmhouse
This Night's For You
Surfing Magazines
Spring Rain
Streets Of Your Town
Here Comes The City
--
The Devil's Eye
Dive For Your Memory
Too Much Of One Thing
--
Clouds
Head Full of Steam
Cattle And Cane
--
People Say
Love Goes On
Ballad of The Go-Betweens

Awesome, thanks for posting this! Looks like they played a nice mix of new and old. I've only driven up to LA to see a show once (for The Clean), but I shouldn't have been so lazy and should have gone to this. I did see the Go-Betweens in SF back in 2000 or 2001 though.

As for the Court and Spark, I'd say pick up Bless You. I don't have their newer one yet, so I don't how good it is. Ventura Whites is okay.

Bless You, eh? I'll add it to my list! Thanks, Ducky.
