In one on the classic dumbass moves of all time, I was attempting to pry out the concrete footing supporting the pole for the basketball hoop at the end of the driveway. I was using an 8 foot long 2x4 and gradually working and wiggling the concrete blob loose. It was almost free, so I repositioned the board for max leverage and started pulling down. The end I was pulling was directly over my head and I was pulling down with all I had when WHACK it slipped off the concrete and came down hard on my skull. I was staggered and knew I might have a problem. It took a minute but the blood started to flow. My wife helped me clean up over the kitchen sink using the spray nozzle. It didn't look too bad so I took a handful of Advil grabbed an ice pack and sat down to watch the golf. After a while the pain was still fairly intense and the bleeding continued a bit so I had a look in the mirror. When I moved a clump of hair over the cut it turned out it was actually in the cut and was the reason for there being so little blood. I pulled on the hair and it opened up a significant gash. We hopped in the car an headed for the ER.

2 hours later after 3 stitches a Tetanus shot, multiple shots of Sambuca with pale ale chasers, I feel goooooooooooooooood!

Very strong work.

(ahem) I see that they thinned your hair out for you in that area too. Nice.

Ouch.

Currently on a pretty good 24-years-without-stitches run since a St.Bernard had my arm for lunch.

It's been almost 15 years since my last 3-stitch incident. I was quite pissed off at that one. I made it through my childhood, high school and college years with no stitches. I foolishly thought I would go my whole life without a stitch.

P.S. It is now the next day and my arm hurts more from the Tetanus shot than my head does from being bashed.

Be careful Stevie. We need folks like you. (Who else is gonna one-up us all with Stones concert stories and the like?)

Your tetanus shot was on your arm? Damn, that indeed must hurt. My last Tetanus was on my ass -- it hurt to sit down for about a week!

Nothing bleeds like a head wound. Well, except for a stuck pig. I've never actually seen a stuck pig, but I hear they bleed like, y'know, stuck pigs.

You should always call in (ahem) professionals for help with work like this, old man. I'm not too far up the road.

And Happy Fathers Day.
