This album in particular....anybody remember this? I am pretty stoked right now because I could not remember what album/group this was for the past few months. I used to rock out to this album hardcore when I was younger and just beginning to appreciate music. I haven't heard this in years, so I have no idea if it's any quality now or not (don't remember the music at all, actually).

Someone tell me before I waste my hard-earned money on this piece of nostalgia. I'm trying to dl stuff now to refresh my memory, but I'm curious in the meantime...

The Soup Dragons should be a firm favourite with Epa since their big hit was 'Can You Dig It?'

Never really liked them much - lightweight pop orientated Madchester wannabees.

We called 'em the Slop Dragons, in the day. Hated that crap. Our trusty mod has 'em pegged correctly.

What I really meant to say, was save your money for something better. If this is the epoch that interests you, check out something like Close Lobsters or Blue Aeroplanes.

well, i don't think hotwired is their best, but it's certainly not bad either. and it's got one of my all-time favorite dancefloor anthems too. look for it in used bins.

What I remember about the Soup Dragons was how they were blatant trend-hoppers. Went from being a sort of sub-Buzzcocks to a contrived Madchester sound. Then when that didn't pan out, they followed Primal Scream's (equally dumb and unconvincing) move into ersatz-Rolling Stones R&B. By the time they called it quits nobody cared.

So maybe that's why I forgot about them. I actually pulled down a couple tracks, and they do nothing for me nowadays. Time to move on....but I at least got that nagging question about "who the hell was that?" out of my head.

Much appreciated to those who pitched in.

I thought Divine Thing was their big hit.

I think I own that cd. I got it from the $1 bin, and haven't listened to it. I might have given it to my brother though since I have the Divine THing Maxi-single, haha.

I had and enjoyed this release from a couple of years earlier.

Wasn't "Can You Dig It?" Pop Will Eat Itself?

The big Soup Dragons hits were "I'm Free" & "Divine Thing" as mentioned.

Where do you guys stand on Jesus Jones?

Hee...

Oh yeah, PWEI was the band that did "Can You Dig It" (among other great tunes).

You got two of the three big Soup Dragons hits - the other being "Mother Universe". All three are fantastic singles of the era.

I just picked up Foxheads Stalk this Land and love it. Not a fan of Blue Aeroplanes, though.

I like Jesus Jones' big hit better than the Soup Dragons big hit (I'm Free).

I got both of those albums out of the 25 cent bin and felt gypped.

I've done some research and 'Can You Dig It? was by The Mock Turtles.

Dragons, turtles....close enough to confuse a rapidly aging old man of 31.

Two songs, same title - Mock Turtles did one and Pop Will Eat Itself did the other one. Same relative period of BritPop.

Pop Will Eat Itself's version was built around a sample from "The Warriors" and was the usual PWEI crusty/rap combination. It was released as a single and was on "This is the Day, This is the Hour, This is This" in 1989. The song is officially titled "Can U Dig It?"

The Mock Turtles' version is entitled "Can You Dig It?" and was on their 1991 album "Turtle Soup". I think it was a single, but I didn't check on that.

They're two totally different songs, start to finish. They're almost like musical homonyms - if such a thing exists.

My god I just dorked out over PWEI...I must really be bored.
