Not sure if I explained that very well, my brains went to bed but I'm still up.

Anyway what I mean is when one album is really good and then the artist releases the next album and it's really shit - or vice versa.

I bring up the subject because I was just listening to the Queens Of The Stone Age album 'Album For The Deaf' and in my humble opinion it stinks like cattle rot, while on the other hand, Rated R has got to be one of the best rock records of the decade.

I kinda think the opposite - the self-titled is great, Rated R is okay, Deaf is great, and Lullabies is very spotty.

this is a lot more difficult than i thought it'd be. i expected to go through my collection and find a bunch of examples of drop-offs, but it's seeming more that they're progressions. my first thought was nick cave's nocturama between no more shall we part and abattoir blues & the lyre of orpheus, but neither of the latter are amazing.

the best i can think of right now is primal scream -> screamadelica -> give out, but don't give up. that's quite a peak in the middle between two bombs, other than one or two songs on each.

I suppose many would say:

London Calling ->>>Sandinista!

But, I'm in the minority of people that find Sandinista! the more interesting listen, although, not the better album.

The New Danger was the most disappointing albums of the year by far in my opinion

Lethal Injection, while dissapointing at the time, is actually pretty good. There are 2 or 3 fucking awesome songs. Plus, all the anti-whitey bombast was gone after this album.

oh, no doubt. but after the Predator? huge slide.

Should we be including albums from bands that have been on extended hiatus/broken up/just gone/underwent important lineup changes?

I mean, The Velvet Underground, Jane's Addiction, Weezer, the D.O.C., The Misfits, Goodie Mob, U.N.K.L.E., Blur....these should all be considered if so.
