I'm hoping for a built in FM receiver, or even a Sirius/XM receiver.

Also crossfade playback. Damn do i wish mine had it.

I hope they don't load it up with bullshit features like a camera and video shit.

It would be cool if you could play cassettes on it.

I agree on the crossfade for sure, and a decent CUSTOMIZABLE e.q.

My Creative Zen has this and it's a good way of fucking up the sound quality of your player. I always end up going back to 'Default'.

How I fell in love with Winamp when I realized it had a crossfader! I was very disappointed when I got my Ipod in '03 to find out there wasn't a crossfader. Apple has to get it together in that department. Besides that, this thing is perfect.

Gapless playback

Not that I would buy an iPod, but it might encourage other manufacturers to add the feature.

Ogg support would be cool, too.

Seconded. I've gotten used to the gap in live recordings but I'd sure consider selling a bunch of stuff to pay for the move up from my 40gb for that and a significant storage increase. Without the gapless . . . I can probably hold out a while longer.

A custom EQ would be nice but you have to remember you're working with lossy files to begin with. Most EQing is just going to add distortion and noise. I like it "flat" anyway. The Ipod sounds good as-is.

You have an iRiver, right? Tried Rockbox yet? It's still not complete, but what does work is amazing. It has gapless playback and support for Ogg and Flac.

Don't hold your breathe waiting for ogg on the iPod. The only reason they let you play mp3s is because they're so ubiquitous. Apple is all about control, and there's no way they'd use an open source codec unless they could bind some DRM into it.

I'm waiting for a stable release. Are you running it on an iRiver?

Durability.

It seems to me that these things last about 2-3 years tops.

Oh, and a battery that won't pollute the environment once its trashed.

Yeah, I have an H140. It does crash once in a while, but mostly when I'm screwing around with the experimental features. I've never had a problem just listening to music.

I'm guessing a stable release will come soon, but I'm not that patient.
