Just got this and the covers are pretty damn cool.
If you are a Danny-hater and wanna know what all the hullabaloo about the guy is, check this out. It really puts the focus on his songs, as opposed to his (admittedly) off-kilter delivery, to put it euphamistically. Personally, I love the guy and I love to hear his sing.

i really love this compilation.

I never realized that Walking the Cow was a Daniel Johnston song. His songwriting is good, but his voice is hard for me to take for more than 3 or 4 songs at a time.

yeah the TVOTR and Mercury Rev songs are my favorite thing to wake up to in the world. The Beck song is my favorite late at night smoke a cigarette song in the world.

the rest i'm a bit indifferent about.

My favorite cover on it is the Bright Eyes. Even though I've been sick of him as of late, I just love how he added music to 'Devil Town'.

I finally got this album in the mail off eBay and everyone I've played it for has gone "wow" and gotten into it. Well, actually, they've gone "wtf is this?" then two tracks later been like "this is pretty cool, actually". Joanna Newsom syndrome.


It's amazing how watching Schoolhouse Rock cartoons on Saturday mornings led to me finding out about an uber-indie artist like this.


Oh and besides this compilation, Yo La Tengo covered 'Speeding Motorcycle' on their Fakebook album and former Glass Eye member Kathy McCarty released a whole covers album of Danny's work, which is also excellent.

And I also have the YLT record. But YLT also did a version WITH Danny at an in-studio, on-air performance, with DJ calling his vocals in over the phone lines! It was originally released as a single on the SOL label, but is now also on the Genius + Love = YLT collection. That was the first thing I heard from him and I still love it.

Only heard a few tracks off this and think they are great TVOTR and Beck especially
