On July 1st, 2005, knowing my future budget will become restricted, and experiencing a lack of time to properly listen to every album that comes my way, i'm reducing my music budget by 10% (every two weeks) and limiting the number of albums bought/downloaded per budget period from the current average of 10-11 down to 6-7.

It's a sad day. Every year from graduating high school i invariably have been increasing my music budget & inflow of music, but i believe i have peaked on this trend in 2004 and now will slowly trend downwards. At the same time, it's not a thoroughly sad day, as i'll be able to devote more time to those albums i do buy/dl, as well as past favorites.

i know this is a struggle many of you have experienced yourselves, and continue to contemplate today, so i thought i'd share my personal story of triumph and defeat on this topic. Defeat, in that i'm a greedy gretchen when wanting to hear new music (to my ears, beit new or old stuff). Triumph, in that i've been able to confront this subject to my current satisfaction, and triumph in being able to more focus and listen to those albums that do tune my way. (i'll also slow down max'ing out my 250gig music hd and cut backup cd-r & dvd-r expenses.)

Someone once said, "it's better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all". Another once said, "dat shit's gonna tears you apart". My feelings rest somewhere in between. i now return you to your regularly-scheduled music broadcast, hopefully still in progress.

 :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Out of curiosity, what is your budget for what amount of time? I'm in a similar kind of situation, with a baby on the way and all, and if someone has a logical way of continuing to buy music but not miss out, I'd like to hear it!

I try to keep my music purchases to $20-30 a week, and with tradeable stuff I still manage to come out of the week with 4-5 new things to listen to. I won't have tradeable stuff at some point, at least not in the quantities that I have recently, so I'm going to need some good saving-strategies.

my music budget period is 2 weeks (every pay period). On $27 per budget period i'm able to buy 11-to-15 albums a month (see page 1 of sticky thread), mostly thanks to ebay, half and emusic.com.

i really don't trade, but do have a couple albums i want to sell online backed up. this is a good music budget supplement to tap into every now-n-then

I'm down to five albums a month. Now that's hardship.
