Literally just picked it up - 20 minutes ago - for my wife, but I'm going to give it a spin to check it out. It sounded promising, what I heard in the store yesterday. It sounded more like "themselves" rather than a combination of influences, if that makes sense. What bothered me about the last album was the heavy 80s influence that could be so easily pinpointed - like early U2 was such an obvious influence. This one doesn't have that feel to it. Maybe a more detailed report will come later.

I only heard the single "There's a Fire" and it sounds pretty good. Audio available here if you want to check it out.

There's another song I have called "River (Depot Song)" off the "There's a Fire EP" and it is REALLY good.

I didn't even know they had a new album out. The last I heard from them was the Life Of The Party ep. I swear, the keyboards in the 2nd verse of the title track to that are directly ripped off from Grandaddy. Still a good song tho.

Just a point of information, but noticed that the BMG record club already has "there's a fire" listed if you need to fulfill your agreement.

Haven't heard it, but definitely in the que to pick up.

I've heard the "fire" single on xm, and liked it. Listening to River now (thanks, puma!), and it's not bad. It's not killing me, but it's not bad.

This fire song is OK, but awfuly smooooth and safe-sounding. Reminds me a bit of recent R.E.M. Is the rest of the album so predictable?

I got this album a few weeks ago and I thought it was terrible. I used to be a big longwave fan but this record is severely lacking in the hook and melody dept.

thank god for promos...
