As for all the Lance haters and your drug accusations, whatever. I'm not arguing that point anymore. Believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want.

Armstrong Takes Lead in Tour De France

Tuesday, July 5, 2005

(07-05) 08:40 PDT BLOIS, France (AP) --

Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel team won the team time trial of the Tour de France on Tuesday, giving the six-time champion the overall race lead.

The 33-year-old American led his team to victory for the third straight year in the event by clocking 1 hour, 10 minutes, 40 seconds for the 67.5-kilometer (41.85-mile) trek from Tours to Blois.

Team CSC placed second, 2 seconds behind. American rider David Zabriskie of CSC, who had come into the stage in the leader's yellow jersey, fell in the last kilometer.

With the win, Armstrong will wear the yellow jersey for the 66th time in his Tour career. Discovery teammate George Hincapie is second overall, 55 seconds behind Armstrong.

Under overcast skies, the nine-man teams set off one-by-one through the Loire River valley, known for its majestic medieval and Renaissance castles, and through the town of Ambroise where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life.

The Discovery teammates took turns leading the single-file pack of riders.

"It was a very tight matchup as we expected. We kept a good rhythm," Discovery team director Johan Bruyneel said. "We stayed together ... It was a beautiful machine operating."

The riders will now embark on three relatively flat stages toward Germany, which the race enters Friday, starting with a 183-kilometer (113.46-mile) ride from the Chambord castle to the industrial town of Montargis on Wednesday.

wow, this really sucks....

1608: American yellow-jersey wearer David Zabriskie takes a tumble approximately 1km from the end leaving his CSC team to race ahead - and they finish two seconds behind Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel team in 1hr 10mins 42secs. Armstrong takes the yellow jersey while Zabriskie, having fallen over 1km from the end, falls to ninth, one minute and 26 seconds behind. Armstrong has a 55 second lead over second-placed George Hincapie, also of Discovery.

Any bets on whether Lance will win this year? Maybe Jan? Maybe Ivan? Maybe Iban?

I am thinking Lance will take it again, but he's too much of a machine for me to actually want him to win. I'd really like Jan to win. With Zabel gone, Telekom (aka T-Mobile) is focusing on getting Ullrich to win the sprints as well as the climbs, as the team used to try to support Zabel in the sprints. So Jan's odds are better that ever, but as usual, he has been dissapointing so far. He is only in 14th overall and he hasn't yet finished in the top 10.... I still rather go to a party with him than Lance. :rockbanana:

I'm pulling for Lance.
