For that "uplifting" quality of Explosions in the Sky (although I don't think they sound much like them), you may want to check out Japancakes.

Harris Newman - Accidents with Nature and Each Other

It's instrumental folk, unlike your list, but I like it a lot.

And it has collaboration with GYBE.

Oh, and I have to give a recommendation for my favorite instrumental band:

Dirty Three.

I forgot all about Tortoise and Mogwai.

I will check out the others.
Thanks

Some Pink Floyd (e.g., most of Obscured by Clouds).

Surprisingly: lots of Electrelane, especially the jam-out sections.

More melodic/less psychedelic/some neo-classical elements:

Friends of Dean Martinez
Tristeza
Album Leaf
Dirty Three
Rachel's
Hanged Up (viola and drums)

You should also check out the soundtrack for Mothman Prophecies, which I enjoyed.

I'm also keeping track of the answers to this list, as I totally dig this sort of stuff. Most of what I listen to is synthetic, though (Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Klaus Schulze, Pete Namlook, et al).

For more of a middle eastern feel, check out Shalabi Effect.

Also, Fly Pan Am is a GYBE related project that you didn't mention.

Also Esmerine, which I like a lot.

From AMG: " Splinter group Esmerine is a chamber rock ensemble formed by Bruce Cawdron and Beckie Foon, members of Godspeed You Black Emperor! and A Silver Mt. Zion, respectively. Unlike their other bands, Esmerine lacks guitars, instead focusing on drums, cello, and marimbas. "

Actually, I think it might be Le Fly Pan Am. Just in case you can't find it in the F section, it might be in the L section. Any guesses whether or not I'm speaking from personal experience (of course, this is at the same store that has Jethro Tull sections in both "J" and "T", and Catherine Wheel in both "C" and "W")?

Anywhere in Quebec or France = filed under "F" (because "le" is "the")
Anywhere outside of Quebec = probably under "L"

(I was a little confused to learn this, being a Quebecer working in an Ontario record store).

I was going to argue with this, but you might be right including Low in an instrumental music list - their vocal are so subdued and even, they almost sound like wind instruments. (Which they are, I suppose.)
