I want to start a blog.

I know Blogger but is there anything else out there? Is Blogger the best one or does the prospective blogger have other blogging options available to him/her?

I'll probably be wanting to post pictures and so forth and have a budget of £0.

i just kinda started a blog on www.xanga.com

there's a free option where i can post pictures. but they have to be hosted somewhere else. (this is what i do.) but if you sign up there's a bunch of other options. (i think they give you a free trial period of the pay option. but i didn't take advantage of it.)

i haven't explored too much with the other options....but i was able to set up a background/theme thing.

Just be sure and use an outside commenting system (such as Haloscan) if you use Blogger. Their stupid system won't allow people not signed up with Blogger to post comments.

Can you set up something for a Blog that creates an email list people can join that notifies the list when there are new posts to the blog?

Yessir. You can also get one with an RSS feed, that people can subscribe to. These have many applications - for example, I've got a Firefox extension that puts a news ticker on the status bar with stories from NY Times and BBC, but I could just as easily add your stupid blog ;)

i run movabletype. though, unless you can find a free host that provides mysql access you won't be able to use it. blogger is probably the easiest route.

I opened an account at Blog-City. It looks pretty similar to Blogger to be honest but we'll see how it goes.

It's for my Konstaniranks project which I know nobody is interested in but I thought I'd like to expand it to some degree with album covers and perhaps small album reviews.
