children, the question wasn't "who hates Xiu Xiu", it was "who has heard La Foret"

Honestly though, to expand on my answer (it would be nice if others did the same), I think that La Foret is one of Xiu Xiu's best releases. It all pretty much boils down to whether you prefer Fabulous Muscles-sounding Xiu Xiu or A Promise-sounding Xiu Xiu, but as a member of the latter group, I think that this may be the best release of the year so far.

The album shares a lot of similarities to A Promise in terms of its sound -- the second track "Muppet Face" sounds very similar to "Apistat Commander" with its blasts of sheer noise and an almost accessible chorus. Other songs, such as the opener "Clover," are barely audible since Stewart whispers a lot of the lyrics and often uses few instruments to back him up.

The album is consistant all the way through -- I can't name a single bad track on it, so if you like Xiu Xiu, you should like the album. While most Xiu Xiu fans have been ranking it in the bottom half of the group's albums, I could even possibly see it becoming my favorite release from them.

One thing to note -- some people have pointed out that this album is more accessible than some of the early releases, but it in no way resembles the poppy sounds of Fabulous Muscles. I don't think it's "accessible" at all, really.

I haven't heard La Foret or Fabulous Muscles. I didn't really care for A Promise, as only a few tracks on there did anything for me and I haven't given anything else a chance, really. I'm kinda like chase in that I think that they're capable, I just haven't heard it yet.

Plus, that t-shirt of theirs with the guy writing the band name in semen nauseates me.

I got into to Xiu Xiu with Fabulous Muscles and never really listened to A Promise much. La Foret is pretty good. And I think Makes No Sense At All is probably right in his assessment. Definitely not as poppy as Fabulous Muscles. So if you need the pop to balance the strangeness, this one probably won't be as good. There are still some great songs on here, though. "Pox" is awesome. It's got great, almost punky guitars.

I've only heard a few songs off it and it hasn't been enough to make me want to listen more. I guess I prefer Fabulous Muscles but I liked A Promise too so when I finally get around to listening to this I think it'll fall somewhere in the middle.
