I love the whole up beat, melodic goth sound. I'm sure the Cure are the best at what they do but I'm curious if there are others who are similar.

Try Danielle Dax. Songs like "Whistling For His Love" or "Cathouse"

I feel like Tears for Fears and even Joy Division (on that one song) dabbled in this territory.

The Bolshoi is also a good choice.

You also might want to look into Dead Can Dance, Clan Of Xymox and The Wolfgang Press.

Although they are by no stretch of the imagination "goth", The Sundays have a sound that's similar to "Just Like Heaven". You would need their first album Reading, Writing and Arithmatic.

Also maybe something by the Cocteau Twins.

Does Jesus and the Mary Chain have similar stuff? Galaxie 500? Soft Boys? Mission of Burma? I've been meaning to get into these four anyway and now that my electronica stuff is coming to a head (at least until new Notwist and BoC) I can focus on melodic 80's goodness.

BTW Notwist's Shrink is so worth checking out. It's more jagged than Neon but still very beautiful.

Mission Of Burma, though incredible, are not what you're looking for in this instance.

Though you might want to check out some Robyn Hitchcock albums.

No it's not. Stick with the Dax suggestion, she's dreamy (and "Cat House" will rip your face off, in a good way).

"Sunday Morning" by The Bolshoi is one of my favorites songs, as is "Books On The Bonfire," But I guess it's not really "happy" goth-pop, the way that "Just Like Heaven" is (there's really no such actual creature as "goth-pop" anyway).

Okay, then, try Tones on Tails "Go!"

But you're really looking for things along the line of The Psychedelic Furs "The Ghost In You," even though Richard Butler would laugh heartily at the thought of being goth.

Look for anything on the C'Est La Mort label--for some reason Roomnine's "Voices of a Summer's Day" comes to mind.

You should also dig out anything by their Fiction label mates, The Passions. If you can find a copy of "30,000 Feet Over China" of "Sanctuary", I highly recommend it.

I had The Bolshoi's "Giants" ep and it bored me silly, I don't recall their follow-up album being much better.

Aces on the Tones on Tail call, btw.

The Church - "Metropolis"
Has the same kind of chiming guitar hook as "Just Like Heaven".

It was the forst thing that popped into my head, at least.

Thanks for the suggestions. Rigth now I'm getting lost in Talk Talk's and Simple Minds' greatest hits albums. I'm more of fan of Simple Minds earlier stuff but the mainstream stuff isn't so bad.
