The Decline Of Western Civilization - Best punk rock documentary - EVER! If only for the creepiness of Darby Crash. Profiles of The Germs, X, Fear, Circle Jerks, and other 80's LA punk pioneers. Brilliant. A must-see for everybody on this board!

Awesome film. Is it on DVD now?

I'm pretty sure DWC II - The Metal Years is still only on VHS, but it's just as much a classic, IMO, if not exactly for the same reasons. It focuses on mid-80s hair metal bands in LA. It's like Spinal Tap, only REAL. Highly entertaining.

I once saw DWC 2 : TMY in an "El Cheapo" bin at Sam Goody for $5.99 & didn't buy it.

I'm dumb.

Neither of those movies are out on DVD, far as I know.

American Astronaut (American indie semi-musical)

ohmigod yes!!!

american astronaut is a movie that not alot of folks know about but everyone i know who's seen it (including me) tries to make sure everyone else who might appreciate it makes an effort to see it. this really is indie filmmaking in a time when big money producers seems to be co-opting everything that used to be independent film. ok, breathe, i'll stop now--but this just came out on dvd and needs to be seen.

also. . . das experiment is a really creepy german film that uses the stanford prison experiment as a jumping off point and explores the inevitable conclusion. scary because it plumbs the depths of the dark side of human nature.

Watch these three in a row to get a sense of the birth of modern/post-modern angst-ridden anti-hero (the children of Marlon Brando and Montgomery Cliff):

Rebel Without a Cause - Director: Nicholas Ray Star: James Dean (1956?)
Breathless (French)- Jean Luc Godard Star: Jean Paul Belmondo (1958?)
Ashes and Diamonds (Polish) - Director: Andrzej Wajda Star: Zbigniew
Cybulski (1958?)

Personally I would like to live within the universe that is Breathless.

I'll second this. I remember the prison guard leader was well played.

incidentally, Chow YunFat and Woo are filming a new movie together, set in the middle ages and supposedly about a battle featuring a million people or some such shit.

Ken Watanabe is also gonna be in it.
