It sounds great, but I won't be the first one on this board to try it.

The engine did'nt blow up. Actually, it ran pretty well. I've got a 40 mile drive today. I'll see how that fares.

This doesn't sound like an especially good idea. I used to use this stuff as a kid to dissolve plastic models. Nasty stuff. This is, however, a tiny amount of acetone in a lot of gas. Still, I'm pretty sure if this was really a good idea the oil companies would have marketed the hell out of it already.

And what exactly are you saving here? Besides gas, you now have to buy acetone. If the acetone adds more than a couple pennies to your per-gallon gas price, you're not really gaining any benefit, are you?

Check out what these chemical geeks have to say: http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php ... eadid=2517

I've got a 4.0 straight 6 in a Jeep Cherokee with 124m miles.

I'll be more scientific about this trial once my engine goes empty and I refuel, but for now, today's trial went smoothly. On the prelim, the engine was quieter and performance was stronger.

I suspect the difference would be more easily noticed on an older vehicle. Since my jeep usually sounds like a diesel I was surprised how much smoother it sounds after the acetone. Anyhow, I'll try to get a mileage report upon refueling.

BTW, Mot, the Acetone is much less for cost ratio, as opposed to the .20 to .30 cents per gallon for premium gas. So, if one can get better orsimilar performance using acetone instead, well then, why not?, I say.

Thanks for those geek boards. They seemed to echo what Dalen's article said, but informative since some posters had tried this.

I wonder what Billzebub has to say being a bit of an engine expert.
