I can't believe this is okay with the NCAA. It's exactly like the recent offensive mascot ruling. They make a rule, and than have some major exceptions that allow the rule to be completely undermined.
If this was happening at Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee or any other school like Florida State and Alabama that has been the location of any recent scandal, all the big time sports channels would be dwelling on this.

The class is actually ballroom dancing. I'm not kidding. This is a total joke- the school is paying for him to come and take ballroom dancing and play football. I never want to hear about how USC's program is somehow elevated above all the rest.

Maybe he can be on that show with J Peterman from Seinfeld.

I don't see what the big deal is...that's all he needs to graduate, why would he take more?

It's funny b/c when he decided to come back everyone made him out to be this big hero. The anti Maruce Clarret. The truth is, he didn't mention his education once during that decision making process. He knows he's not ready for the NFL & that's it. Consensus #1 pick my ass

I may be waaay off base on this, but I thought Peyton Manning played his final year at Tennessee after he had graduated. What class(es) was he taking?

that's possible, but he would've also had to have taken some classes. as long as his eligibility hadn't run out, he could've graduated and continued to play if he was enrolled.

He's waiting because he knows Favre is retiring and the Pack will suck so much that they'll draft him.

That said, free rides for athletes is nothing new. My alma mater has sucked at sports to no end. We've a student body in excess of 30,000 but we can't field a hoops team nor a football team. We can't seem to recruit for shit in our own state, and we're the GDF state university.

However, even at our school, you knew you were in the right elective if you saw either the football team or lacrosse team in their V-form cheat formation. No kidding, we offered classes such as "Coaching Theory I", "Coaching Theory II", and "Perspectives Of Sport".

Here's where I play the total hypocrite: I wish we accepted every thug/decent athlete on the planet and make it to a bowl game/past round one in the NCAA (not too much to ask from the squad that took Michigan to the NIT final two years ago).

As long as the school continues to offer the first rate education to those who want it, they can do with the athletes what they will. It's like having a better student union, better teams enhance the college experience for the students.

Find me one Duke student who isn't tickled that they have an awesome hoops team for which to root. Are their players dumb as bricks? You bet. Does affect the abilitly of the school to offer a better education to the rest of the student body? Not in the least, if anything it helps because they can attract students from a better pool because the attractiveness of the school is enhanced. Oh yeah, the program brings big bucks into the school as well.

Nebraska has lots of players finish their degrees who finish their eligibility, but they have to maintain a full post graduate case load, which is at least 9 credit hours.
I personally only needed four hours to finish my undergrad degree, but needed to take twelve to maintain a scholarship and loans. I just think you should have to take at least 12 hours of weak courses, if you are finishing up your Football scholarship by using up your collegiate eligibility.
I understand we are no longer dealing with true scholar/athletes with the high number players leaving early for the NFL Draft, but taking one ballroom dancing course so you have one more chance to win the heisman and another title is a complete joke.
For the amount of money he will earn in the near future, he could easily take a few more classes like normal students on scholarships.
