What I thought of Antony & Johnsons and Okkervil River..

okkervil has been in my collection for several years along with Shearwater releases. Okkervil's latest is great IMO.

I honestly wanted to see what Antony & the Johnsons were all about since they were critic's darlings and rec'd great reviews. Having listened, I have to agree with Chase. Much ado about nothing. Ohhh, he's adrogenous and warbles. Whatever. His cd doesn't "touch me" and I think it's nothing more than music elitism that he's getting kudos in that "I'm liking something off the beaten path" whether it deserves the praise or not."

Couple of years from now, it will be a trivia answer around here figuring out who this guy was and why people liked him.

Well, I think I do at least. Either way, who cares? When I see a topic of interest to me, I contribute my honest answer. I mean it's not like I'm going to say I love Okkervil River if I really think they're awful. What would be the point of that?

Antony's probably my #2 of the year right now behind Low. Voice is definitely an acquired taste IMHO (though I know e-stone had the opposite effect), but I think the song arrangements are gorgeous.

Okkervil River is nice but does very little for me.
