not godawful at all, but just not very interesting. starts out decent, and then pisses away after track 4.

Jackie-O Motherfucker/My Cat Is an Alien - From the Earth to the Spheres Vol.3

This is the first downright crappy release by JOMF I've ever heard. It's bad, and it was kinda expensive. The My Cat Is an Alien track sucks, too.

It's just way too life affirming for me, if that makes any sense. That, and the songs are really uninteresting.

I spent a lot of the year listening to Boces, Yerself is Steam, and See You on the Other Side, so it was painful. I mean, I don't really even necessarily dislike this iteration of the band; I thought Deserter's Songs was pretty good.

It's funny, I'm just listening to this for the first time right now (recently obtained it from a friend at work). It's really not that bad. I guess I'd be pretty disappointed if I bought it, but it definitely isn't "godawful".

Well I regret it more for the reason I bought than how it sounded.

I got it through BMG selection of the month. Wasn't planning on buying it because I'd heard it was tamer than previous releases, but forgot to reply to the selection e-mail. Now I'm glad I have it, even if I smacked myself for paying full retail + s & h for a CD (usually try to figure ways not to do that).

exactly. compared to Boces, Yerself Is Steam, or even See You on the Other Side, the new album is so so bland. the opening track on the new one is damn good though IMO.

Though I didn't purchase any of these.

01 Stephen Stills :: Man Alive
02 Antony and the Johnsons :: I Am A Bird Now
03 Big Star :: In Space

Finally someone who agrees about Anthony and the Johnsons... also Bloc Party was a real let down for me.

<---- still likes the Redwalls album a whole bunch. I figure if you place Pop Todd's criteria for regretting buying De Nova against any other pop rock band (including his own) and you'll get to "ho hum" ten times out of ten.

If this were 10 years ago, it would not be a regrettable purchase. Back then, I could afford to buy a lot of CDs, and I did. These days, my CD purchases are limited... a lot. And I only regret that, with the very few CDs that I can buy, The Redwalls took the place of something else that I would have wanted/enjoyed more.

Like Caetano Veloso "Transa" which I think it directly took the place of you big dink.

For a change, I'd say I don't think I've regretted any purchases this year. A few such as Andrew Bird & Spoon were big disappointments vs my high expectations, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I regret buying them.
