I know this might sound lame, but what about board games? I always love getting new games, and it encourages your family to do something fun together. Something like Cranium, Hoopla, Trivial Pursuit, whatever. The DVD game Scene It is pretty fun too.

Gift certificates, while certainly useful, are not my favorite thing, just because it requires so little thought. If your sisters didn't care about that sort of thing, I guess it doesn't matter.

The magazine subscription idea is also a good one. While renewing my Magnet subscription, I got the option of sending a gift subscription for free. Less expensive, and you get to share the love!
