I received a copy of "Getting Drunk at a Wake" from Derris on saturday while he poisoned our livers and watched UGA's shitty redzone effectiveness drive us nuts.
Thought of Rads' reviews, and was glad to notice he gave my fave song on here 5 Bustys:
6. Queens of the Stone Age Auto Pilot
I've always felt that QOTSA let themselves down with weak vocals (and the common metal preference for volume over momentum, but that's a complaint for another time), but this song really works for me. The lazy vocals are perfect and the band manages to work a slinky groove.
5 BUSTYS
The song has a vague sense of menace to it, but then slips into some kined of open Beatles homage for the "AAAAH, OOOOH, AUTOPILOT NO CONTROL" part. Kills me.
And rads, 2 songs you need to push up the ratings are that Supersuckers song "good livin" and the Widespread song "Blackout Blues" listen to the lyrics, and understand that this is what life was like for 5 years in Athens, GA.
