whoa, crazy shit.

actually just forwarded these to my bro who used to live down there; he was just telling me that the stuff about looting we saw in the media is actually about 1% of reality.

Fucking car lots are empty. Stores are empty. Houses are empty. THEY took everything.

And they gone get dat gubgergment checkg as wellg. This country deserves to be colonized by the Saudis and Chinese....Yelch.

Thanks for the pics, and big ups to your boy.

A guy from another board I post at is an FBI agent and had to escort some people back to their homes to secure valuables. He posted some of the pictures he took while there. I'll do a quick cut & paste:

Just some general pics. I didn't take any pics of real sensationalistic kinds of things as I didn't have my camera on me at all times. Click the thumbs for larger pics.

Chalmette - Notice the oil streaks (4' to 5' high on some vehicles and homes). Sludge still around after two weeks. Watermarks were about 8' to 10' on homes around there.

Damaged sections of I-10 over Lake Pontchartrain:

A piece of wood that pierced the top of a truck in Slidell

Blackhawk down, um, I mean up...

Driving into N.O. via the causeway. Lake Pontchartrain looked rather beautiful that day. I'm not sure what that building was at the end of the causeway (hotel???) but it was pretty messed up.

A RaceTrac gas station in Slidell that had every single pump knocked down and most of the canopy ripped off. The Chevron station directly across the street was in mint condition. Go figure.

Slidell & North Shore/Eden Isle area got hit real bad with both wind and flood damage:

A street in Mandeville. They had tree issues. Imagine if you would that every neighborhood in and around N.O. has nothing but trees and flood damaged belongings piled up on each and every street as far as the eye can see. How are they ever going to be able to clean all that up?

it's still hard to believe how bad the devastation is. it will take a long time to recover from this hurricane season.

i heard that something like 40% of louisiana businesses are shut down after katrina and rita.

Sorry to inject humour on a national tragedy, but someone needs to post this to I Park Like An Idiot.
