Whereas Gil Gerard in an oft-overlooked 70's verile badass.

Remember "Sidekicks" where he was teamed up with the teenaged martial arts master?

He was eating oatmeal. Then he took some metamucil with his OJ. And then he got up and told his friends, "excuse me fellas, it's time for the 10:00 AM log drop off."

At the setting next to him was a well-crafted stool.

I like the Jacksonville album quite a bit; I'm still only really high on the second disc of Cold Roses.

Fu as usual has hearing problems from listening to too much of that band of retards.

Solid all around! Yes, the reference to in the closet is right on. That's pretty funny, but as someone said, I can ignore a few small mistakes. I surprising really enjoy the Norah Jones track. Highly recommended if you like this guy!

I've only been through it once so far but on first listen I'd say it's not as good as Cold Roses. More mellow and twangy. I'll give it a few more listens but off the bat it doesn't do much for me.

Sounds like something out of "Trapped in the Closet"

Meaning, both need a good editor?

Meanwhile, I unabashedly endorse Ryan Adams and R. Kelly - and Bryan Adams, who kind of splits the difference between the two (have you heard "Everything I Do (I Do It for You)"?) - and anything they deign to allow us to hear.

"Jacksonville" is a really solid album - if it had come out right after "Gold", "Demolisten", or "Love is Hell", I'd be on it like white on rice...

However, "Cold Roses" was the last album that he put out. Admittingly, it's been a MAJOR grower but, so far, I like that one a lot better than "Jacksonville". I don't like the Norah Jones duet, and there are a couple times when it gets a bit too twangy...

That being said, I could still see this coming in near the bottom of my top 20, when the year's all said and done...

i agree on twangy, but feel cold roses is more mellow. guess it depends what you're listening for.

have had 4+ spins now & like cold roses if only because there's more of a good thing. for now i like "let it ride" > "the hardest part" when comparing lead singles, and "magnolia mountain" > "a kiss before i go" when i comes to fav unreleased tracks.

After Let It Ride, I think Easy Plateau is killing me most.

That's the thing - there are so many songs that just kill on "Cold Roses". I can only think of 1 or 2 with that sort of promise on "Jacksonville"...

Maybe one can argue that it's a double album vs. single album thing, but we're talking about 18 songs for "Roses" and 14 for "Jacksonville", and it's usually the shorter songs that have the best chance of stickin' in yr craw...

i like norah, i just didn't think this'd work. guessed it was her after my first listen, then read the pitchfork review. not as disconnected a duet as they claim, but not near as good as ryan + emmylou.
