From NME:

Dead Kennedys pull out of Los Angeles show
The band cancel performance due to 'political reasons'

Dead Kennedys have pulled out of a Los Angeles show after learning that the event was sponsored by beer company Coors.

The band cancelled their appearance at the 'Waking The Dead' gig at the Grand Olympic Auditorium on October 29 for 'political reasons'.

A statement from the band said: "Dead Kennedys have decided to pull out of the show for political reasons as the band was not informed that there would be corporate sponsors when they agreed to play the show and were specifically unaware that Coors would be a major sponsor until advertisements for the show appeared in LA Weekly."

"Dead Kennedys immediately contacted the organizers of the event to object to and discuss the removal of Coors' sponsorship, but a suitable arrangement could not be made."

Guitarist and founder member of the band East Bay Ray declared: "Dead Kennedys have always been wary of corporate sponsorship and steer clear of lending our name to promote a product. Because we were not alerted to the ultra conservative, right-wing sponsor for this event, we could not see a reason to go ahead and perform at this show in good conscience."

He continued: "Dead Kennedys want nothing to do with this event or Coors and I am disgusted that they are now sponsoring punk shows, something they are politically at odds with."

The show is still set to go ahead without the Dead Kennedys with Suicidal Tendencies, The Germs, Flipper and Marky Ramone on the bill.

Dead Kennedys meanwhile apologised to their fans and stated that they "hope to serve as an example to the punk rock community that certain ideals shouldn't be sacrificed."

Dead Kennedys are planning to play Los Angeles in the future to celebrate the 25th anniversary re-release of 'Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables'.

It's true though. Coors are a bit hypocritical here.

Good for them. I have to admit to be, for the most part, clueless about the politics of various corporations and had no idea that Coors were a "conservative, right-wing sponsor".

What can I tell 'ya? My bad.

Now maybe I've got this wrong but didn't Jello Biafra and the rest of the Dead Kennedys end up in court because Biafra wouldn't let them use a song for an advert?

Yeah..It was something along those lines...Jello isn't even singing for the band....It's some other dude..So it's not even the real Dead Kennedys anyway..

Peter Coors ran for office on the Republican ticket in the last Colorado election.

Yeah...the mere fact that these "Dead Kennedys" are on their high horse about "ideals" is a fucking joke.

Yeah, they cancelled their gig here last year because they booked a medium sized venue and sold about 12 tickets. No Jello, no Kennedys.

The Dead Kennedys without Jello
The Germs without Darby Crash
Flipper without Will Shatter

What the hell IS this? A tribute show?

The Heritage Foundation, one of the world’s most influential conservative public policy research institutes, is basically their baby.

I didn't know this until recently either.
