Yo. I've returned home from my trip to Paris and through Italy, and just wanted to say Hi before I die from the onset of my first true bout with time zone lag: I've been awake since 10:30 PM Eastern last night . . .
I spent a good amount of time in Paris, with three days bookending either side of my trip. It's a gorgeous, reposed, very civilized place that there is a lot of charm to and in a lot of places within it. These last days were a perfect end to an otherwise hectic journey of constant movement:
Italy is overrun by tourists, extremely expensive, and, relatedly, its culture is overwhelmed by its history. Of course, it is a beautiful, beautiful land, and rich in its past. I enjoyed the time I spent most in country areas (in Tuscany, and in the mountainous lake region of the very north), and in Rome, which I think is a city that bears a contemporary vibrancy to rival its massive historical value. I also went to Venice, which was lovely, and Florence, which I really didn't like so much.
(Pictures are forthcoming.)
I was only able to effectively soundtrack my 2.5 week walking tour of Paris and Italy with:
Paula Frazer "A Place Where I Know"
John Fahey - any
Six Organs of Admittance - any
Broadcast "Tender Buttons"
Animal Collective "Feels"
Micah P. Hinson - that album from this year
Iron and Wine & Calexico "Reigns"
