It was 1987.
I had a copy of CCRs Chronicles, VOL. 2, which is not nearly the collection that VOL. 1 is.

I had been curious to check out some Los Lobos, after hearing "Shakin' Shakin' Shakes" on the radio, so me and my friend Josh made the trade:
Chronicles, VOL. 2 for By the Light Of the Moon.

It was the beginning of a love affair with Los Lobos' music that is still going on.

I'm listening to that very copy of By the Light... as I type this.

Awesome.

How about y'all?
Anybody here make a similar kind of transaction that still resonates?

I traded Accept's "Balls To The Wall" album for Dokken's "Tooth And Nail". I loved both at the time, but was blown away by the guitar sound from George Lynch.

It's probably common knowledge around here now that my favorite band of all time is Dinosaur Jr. I started hearing about them in 1993, when they were on the Lollapolooza tour. I almost bought Where You Been at a CD store for $15 just because I like their name but decided it wasn't worth it for a band I'd never heard. The next school year, my Sophomore year in high school, a classmate of mine came to my locker selling some of his CDs. Among his stack was Where You Been and Green Mind by Dinosaur Jr, Screeming Trees best of the SST years and a few others. He was selling them for $5/each so I grabbed Where You Been and the Screeming Trees best of.

At the time I was really into classic rock but thought I needed to get into some newer stuff as well. The $10 I spent on these two CDs was the first time I'd bought anything from an "indie" band or anything I hadn't heard on the radio first. You could say I bought my current taste in music for $10 in high school.

Both excellent albums. I have these on cassette.
