Seriously.
This is no joke.
I mean, they are a bit of a joke now, but back in the 70's they were a pretty goddamn great hybrid of Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. (Some might say "imitators", but they be haters.)

Toys In the Attic
Rocks

Those are some seriously fucking great rock and roll records.
It makes me sad to hear them now.

Hell, I'll admit to liking both "Permanent Vacation" and "Pump"

I still love the power ballad "Angel".

Their stuff up through Rocks is damn good and there is stuff to enjoy on some of their 80's albums when they made their comeback....with the help of some professional song doctors.

I can almost picture you lip syncing this in your apartment.

Derris, you probably dont even remember this, but you were really wasted when you called me on Saturday night. WRECKED!

"Toys In The Attic" is a monster song. They've got a few other really good ones as well.

I have a morbid curiosity about hearing those albums they made in the late 70's/early 80's when they were so gahhhhhhhh, they dont even remember cutting them.

"What it Takes" is the power ballad I've always favored. Even that doesn't out-weight my hatred for the band though.

Todd, I agree with you about their classic recordings. If they'd never made it to the 80s and beyond, Aerosmith would be remembered as a classic, respectable band. They've screwed that up, though if you ask me.

Like Derris I think"Pump' and "Permanent vacation" are both great albums. Some really great tunes (singles and others) on these.

Interesting that you brought this up, as I was "lucky" enough to hear the ASU marching band's interpretations of "Sweet Emotion," "Dream On," "Walk This Way" and "Ragdoll" this weekend during halftime at the Sun Devils game. It came off a lot better than their Paul Simon "tribute" a couple weeks back. This is what you miss when you watch games on TV.

Word. Their last respectable album was "Done With Mirrors" , IMO. And everything since has been so bad it taints the earlier reputation so much that I can't get past it.

Agreed. I found out that at halftime of the UGA/Tenn game Kenny Rogers came out and performed in full UT regalia. The UT marching band apparently spelled out "Kenny" on the field.

He did "Ruby don't take your love to town", "The Gambler", and something else.

How random is that?

He actually lives in Buckhead, now.

The IRS or whoever came and took that big ol' mansion/spread he had up in Athens.

Also heard that Kenny and Lionel Ritchie are doing some sort of "Storytellers" thing on TNT.

Like I said in a different thread the other day, Aerosmith was the first real rock band I got into. They'll always have a place in my rockin' heart no matter how pathetic they've become. I'm still holding out hope that they continue to let Bon Jovi be the biggest douche in the world.

Double Word. DWM is BY FAR their most underrated album! "Sheila" is one of my all-time favorite Aerosmith tunes, and "My Fist Your Face" would make the perfect soundtrack to the unreleased documentary on the life and times of The Right Honorable Senator LooGAR.

I didn't mind "Living on the Edge" so much, and that was one of their 90s songs.

I rode horses on his ranch, up north of athens once. UGA rented space there from him for the equestrian dept.

Actually had a conversation about Aerosmith over the weekend, the general opinion being that SOBER AEROSMITH FUCKING BLOWS. It's not even something that I'd say about most of my favorite bands, but the post-sobriety decline there is atrocious.

it should be pointed out that I don't like their earlier work much either. but their recent stuff is just that bad.

While the sobriety point is a valid one, you could extend it & have the more accurate if not less wordy "SOBER-AND-STARTED-APPROACHING-EVERYTHING-FROM-A-CORPORATE-STANDPOINT-BY-MAKING-HOKEY-VIDEOS-AND-TRENDY-ALBUMS-THAT -PANDERED-TO-THE-GOOBEREST-OF-ROCK-FANS" opinion.
