Doesn't even have a listing at AllMusic, yet.
Yeah.
I'm curious to hear your impressions.

first song - Dony - pretty good. Not spectacular, but solid. This could really grow on me.

second song - Lady Sweet - stellar, in my opinion. Just exactly what you'd expect and want from Big Star.

third song - Best Chance We'll Ever Have - wow, this is pretty damn good so far. Nice harmonies. I'm guessing the low lead vocal on the first and third song is Stephens but Chilton has some nice harmonies here. So far this is not disappointing me at all, and this is a little better than I expected.

fourth song is great too "Turn my Back on the Sun" - just fantastic. So far this is way good, but I've heard the fifth song is ABYSMAL, so I'm probably about to get really sad.

6 is pretty good. 7 and 8 are nothing special, but not bad.

9 appears to be a classical song reworked for a three piece band. Weird.

5 is awful

7-12 is meh.

overall rating 6.5 on the pitchfork scale.

I think this is what he's getting at. TF named a whole album after a Big Star track. It's kind of like saying that Gang of Four sounds like Radio 4.

Yeah...that's what I was getting at. A BIG part of the TF sound harkens back to Big Star's stuff. The harmonies in particular.

You should definitely check out "#1 Record/Radio City" if you haven't before.

Hee hee...Haq's too speedy. But he nailed it.

I've heard "Dony", BTW. Really looking forward to the whole album, even though it's not "real" Big Star.

Well, sometimes the influencees become the influencers. I was actually going to mention that some of the new Gang of Four material sounds like Radio 4.

(For what it's worth, I heard Gang of Four long before Radio 4 and enjoy them much more, although the new Gang of Four material sounds like bad Radio 4 - make sense?)

Indeed, this is awesome. Do Jon Auer vocals get any better than this?

i'm a huge fan of both bands. should have clarified i guess.

Natural Mike's comment "Well, sometimes the influencees become the influencers." says it all.

This is worse than I even expected.

Half-assed, plodding with too many pussy-footing harmonies and no punch or crunch whatsoever. Too clean; too soft.

This is similar, yet less exciting than The Thrills.

This is almost as bad as the new Stephen Stills "effort".

I finally listened to this whole thing today after downloading it from eMusic. I more or less agree with Matt's comments about the good tunes, but I think tracks 5 and 7-12 are terrible.

4/10

I finally got around to hearing this - downloaded it from Rhapsody.

I gotta say I'm pretty much right in line with what Spade posted.....it's a 6.5 album. There's some great stuff on there, some OK stuff, & some downright embarrassing shit.

Worth buying ( especially for fans ) for the great stuff, but don't pay too much for it.
