Gogol Bordello - Can anyone tell me if this Gypsy Dogs Undeworld Strike CD lives up to the hype??

I've been reading a ton in the Canadian press, this past week, and they sound interesting.

Thanks-a-ton,

Bill

It's interesting cause it is different from most of the stuff out there, but I'm not quite sure it lives up to the hype. It can get pretty annoying at times.

I recently bought the Gypsy Punk CD and find it great for my work commute.

Supposedly they are a better live band than recorded. My friend likes them--that's his opinion at least. I went with him to see them once, and it was a good show, but I've not listened to their actual records yet so I can't say for myself.

They're performing at the Troubadour soon and am thinking about going to check 'em out. I'll decide as the date draws nearer.

it's a schtick, it is. and it's a novelty for the most part, but christ the record is a whole lot of fun. that's why i enjoy it, because it's fun.

Cool. Thanks all.

I think I'll pass, for now.

They sure have a ton of albums for a novelty act, according to a search on amg.

Cheers,

Bill

Eugene from Gogol Bordello used to have a band in Burlington, VT called The Fags. They were fantastic. I haven't heard GB yet, but from the review I read, it sounds like he's added some technology to the raw, punk, Russian Pogues sound The Fags had. The first time I saw them, my jaw hit the floor. They were fantastic, and different.

I'm about to rip the Fags CD, "No Fleas, Lunch Money and Gold Teeth" for my iPod to today. If anybody wants it, PM me for a YSI. (There was also a cassette EP they put out before the CD, and it's even better; but i don't think i'll be digitizing it anytime soon.)
