I hear more Cars than Television, song structure-wise.

Song didn't do a whole lot for me, but I'm glad they finally got rid of the tired-assed vocal effect.

Because people need a way to say that they don't like Teh Strokes, and this gives them a way that teh average person will have no idea if they are right or wrong. Television picks corn out of my shit. The Strokes, on the other hand, band of the aughts.

Are you guys kidding me? Although nothing in their past has sounded like Television to my ears, this song sounds like it's straight off of Marquee Moon! Listen to the vocals and guitars.

I'm actually gonna have to sort of agree with you here, C. I hear it in about 4 different places, most noticeably the little guitar solo that follows both "choruses"

The Dawg's right on both accounts, but it really just sounds like leftovers from ROF.

Television or not... don't you think that majority of today's bands have some influence from bands back in the day? It seems redundant to say "Oh they're copying _____________." Just sayin.'

Anywaaaaaaaay, I'm totally excited for the new album.... can't wait!

Yeah, thats pretty much what bands do, be influenced by other bands.

Personally, I like Television just fine. I also really like the Strokes. The fact that the Strokes like/are influenced by Television (or anybody) is no biggie to me. Dude, its rock n roll; its a sorry art form built on thievery.

Now, if Television were black, we'd have to build them a museum.......

(sorry guys, I can't help myself sometimes)

I like Television as well... got into them a bit late in the game, but I don't see anything wrong with bands being influenced by an older band at all (to a certain extent). It just seems that most people around here get aggro when "so and so sounds like (insert indie cred band here)." Now when you're blatantly copying another band, that's a whole another story.....

Now back to the Strokes. I'm going to stalk Nick Valensi. *drool*

Strokes To Make 'Impressions' In January

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. ( billboard.com )

The Strokes' third studio album, "First Impressions of the Earth," will be released Jan. 3 via RCA. First single "Juicebox" debuted last week at No. 33 on Billboard's Modern Rock airplay chart; a video for the track will be shot in the next few days in New York and is tipped to feature couples in a variety of make-out scenarios.

Although the track list for "First Impressions" is not yet finalized, among the eight tracks recently previewed by Billboard.com are the soul-tinged "I'll Try Anything Once," the synthesizer-backed "Ask Me Anything," the heavier rockers "The Ize of the World" and "Vision of Division" and the snappy "Heart in a Cage" and "Razorblade."

The album is the follow-up to 2003's "Room on Fire," which debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 571,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Strokes will return to live duty during a late October tour of South America, which begins Oct. 21 in Rio de Janeiro.

Room On Fire went gold? That's surprising.

Whatever happened to people dismissing The Strokes by saying they sound just like The Velvet Underground?
