it's math. the process of adding the digits of a 2-digit number together then subtracting that sum from the original number can only yield a certain set of numbers between 0 and 99. if you put the same symbol on all of those numbers, it's always right.

do it 3 times and remember the number you get on each attempt. on your fourth try look up all those numbers - they'll have the same symbol. click the button and you'll get that symbol.

see, I knew there was a logical explanation...I hate math, only the right side of my brain works.

All the numbers whose digits add up to 9 always have the same symbol as each other, even if that symbol changes each time.
