That's right, folks. You haven't heard word one from me in weeks, and now I'm going to offer to socialize with you. Grad school ain't always easy, I'll say that much.

I'm arriving in Chicago tomorrow at approximately 2:15PM, staying for a conference, and then leaving Chicago at 9PM on Sunday. Sunday will probably be the best bet for hanging out - I'm done at noon - but maybe I can get away to socialize on Friday or Saturday night, as well.

Any takers?

Hey, I can probably do that. We actually have no plans this weekend other then I'm trying to convince josh to do a Haunted tour sometime this weekend.

I'll see what I can do, I do kinda have to wait a couple days, I spent an enjoyable evening in the ER on monday due to a problem I don't wanna get into here and depending on how I'm feeling I may be able to meet up with ya somewhere.

I'll be at Schubas on Friday for American Analog Set. Saturday's open in the evening as of now.

You can hitch with me to a gig if you want. I'm playing Cubby Bear Friday with Karmatease (meh), or Sat. with Liquid Soul in St. Charles (a hike, but the ribs there are good). We can also go play basses. I can take you places. Places with basses, vintage and new.

I'll be watching the World Series on saturday and sunday, hopefully at the park at least one of those nights. Friday night is semi-free, but only after a meetup with the band about the recording sessions

Chicago is pretty great, folks. Jen, we should try to get together, you too, Phil. I'm staying at the Hotel InterContinental downtown, and I'm at the University of Chicago right now - a new afternoon session of talks is about to start. I ate at Eppy's deli yesterday, had a Reuben and a cup of "temperature soup," for 56 cents.

I'd like some restaurant and bar recommendations, particularly within walking distance of my hotel.

Damn it, American Analog Set is sold out . . . there goes that idea. Any other music happening tonight? Phil, I think II might take you up on tomorrow night w/your Liquid Soul show - how far away is the gig? If it's too far, maybe we should just gto out for lunch on Sunday, or something.

Overall, tonight (late-ish), tomorrow night (late-ish), and Sunday (between noon and 7PM) is what I have available.

Lemme hear some recommendations, and I'll follow up on this later this afternoon.

Swiateck, I'll write you back later today or tomorrow.

Just got back from Chicago last night, and had a great time (as usual) when I wasn't working. Thought the Metro was a cool place to see a show; caught the Decemberists Wed. night.

The one recommendation I'd make as far as good/cheap eats is the happy hour menu (early and late) at McCormick & Schmick:

Heaven On Seven - on Michigan Ave. (not exactly sure where, since I only know their old location on Wabash.) - Cajun/Creole

Gold Coast Dogs - on State and Illinois (is it still there?) - hot dogs; get the cheddar fries.

mk - 900 (or so) N. Franklin - if you want to drop a LOT of coin on a good meal. www.mkchicago.com ... My friend Todd is the chef there.

Lou Malnati's on Wells, across from the Merchandise Mart - my favorite Chicago-style pizza.

Punk Rock bar:
CAL's - 400 S. Wells.... http://www.drinkatcalsbar.com/
Some good punk bands on occasion.

But basically, to do anything really cool, you'll have to leave downtown and go out to the neighborhoods.

Essentially, downtown is

I'm also at University of Chicago right now, where are you? I'm at the GSB.

Unfortunately, I now have plans on Saturday night because this weekend is Fall Preview for our prospective students, and I'm going out to dinner with a group of them. I guess I'm free after that though.

I live downtown at ~400 E, 400 N. Where's the InterContinental?

Dig it. St. Charles is a burb of Chicago, maybe a 45 minute drive, and if you need to bail early, the metra runs right back down town from there.

Got my digits?

Also, Karmatease at Cubby Bear will be better than I thougth after last night's rehearsal, kitty corner from wrigley field at Clark and Addison. Quick hike from the red line...

the north location of heaven on seven is at ohio/michigan or thereabouts

the wabash location is ~100 N. Wabash.

Also, there's Andy's Jazz bar just east of State and Hubbard on Hubbard, got great jazz and relatively inexpensive eats for that area.

So am I, but I forgot my cell phone today! I'm wandering around wearing jeans and a blue and maroon vertical striped button-down shirt, and one of the blue lanyards (sp?) that the admissions volunteers are wearing. I'm not on my own laptop, so I'm not going to be checking this again. My real name is Eric, so you don't have to go up to someone and say "are you shmoo?".
Also, the lanyard has my name of course.

I am more then likely not going to be able to do a darned thing.

I'm basically on call for the next couple days cause my son's step-mother is due any second to have the baby and I literally can't make plans because if she goes into labor then my son who is with them next couple days comes to my house.

Hell I'm staying in tonight now because she was having minor contractions earlier today so who knows what's to happen.

But I hope you have a fabulous last 24 hours here!!
