I've heard a couple of tracks on the radio and DAMN.
They were kinda like Nebraska, but with much prettier melodies. The songs were incredible, acoustic pop that was damn-near unrecognizable as Bruce. Amazing stuff.

Is the rest of the record like that?
Opinions?
Comments?

I've been putting this off, but today is a good day to do it.

I really like this album. The production is unfortunate, though. Hate Brendan O'Brien. Some beautiful songs, though, including the title track and "Meet Me At the Matamoras Banks", especially.

Does anyone else get annoyed when Bruce slips into the redneck voice?

I like the album, but Im not compelled to put it on or anything. Im not sure, but I like this side of Bruce - Id say the album is worth having Todd.. if you really enjoyed the couple of songs you have heard- you probably will not be disappointed

I don't know what my deal is. I don't think it's bad, but I have no desire to listen to it. The new sleater kinney is the exact same thing.

I really miss the undisciplined Springsteen of Wild, Innocent, E Street and Born To Run, back when he was prepared to throw the kitchen sink into every song, back when he challenged his own band to upstage him with every note. I realize he's grown into a [quote] better songwriter [end quote] over the years, but I've always considered the actual song to be only half of the equation. The other half is the way the song is attacked. The Boss has almost become to reverent of his own songwriting.

I'll have to give a listen since the last Springsteen album I liked was in '87.

I agree with this to a great extent. There is a reckless abandon he had early on, and you really got the feel from the records that not only Bruce but the entire band were having a really good fucking time making that music. The fun shines through, which makes it tons more enjoyable than most records by most artists.

EDIT: Them [quote][end quote] fucked up my quotin'.

I actually kinda like it...

New album = pretty great. I've been enjoying it lots and lots since it came out...

Production's a bit floofy, and I'm not so hot on the "Reno" song, but besides that, it's thumbs.

They've been playing a video off the new album on VH1 Country a lot. I forget the name of the song...it may just be Devil's and Dust.

It's a decent song but the harmonica part really bugs me for some reason.

I have called him the "Norman Mailer of Rock and Roll" because of this.

It's good, but a couple songs too long and a little same-y in spots. The production tries to be sparse but comes off as clinical. Yet, it's his best since Tunnel of Love.

This paired with the Rising is so fucking earnest that it hurts. The Boss has that playful side that has been missing on record for some time . . . I hope that man doesn't write a Hurricane Katrina record.

But see, Rads, now we have Marah to completely mine/ripoff the Greetings..., Wild Innocent era.

I like the album a lot; not as good as The Rising (which I like a LOT) IMHO, but a nice little collection of songs.

"Long Time Coming" is my favorite I think.
