Low Profile - a 2 CD tribute to Nick Lowe, put together by Walter Clevenger. There was a previous trib to NL and it pretty much sucked - way too reverent and slick - but this looks to be a more rough-around-the-edges sorta line-up. Although I would've liked to have seen a few more out-of-left-field participant choices - like, say, Lucero doing "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" or BRMC doing "Cruel To Be Kind" or Antony & the Johnsons doing "You Make Me"... but I guess those'll have to wait for the trib I curate.

Lowe Profile Track Listing:

Eric Ambel - 12 Step Program To Quit You Babe
Ian Gomm - Cruel To Be Kind
Foster & Lloyd - Without Love
Dave Alvin - Failed Christian
Don Dixon - True Love Travels On A Gravel Road
Steve Allen - I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass
Walter Clevenger & The Dairy Kings - There's A Cloud in My Heart
Michael Carpenter - (What's So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding?
Terry Anderson & The OAK Team - You Got The Look I Like
Bryan Shaddix - Couldn't Love You Anymore Than I Do
Rick Shea & Christy McWilson - Never Been In Love
Tipsy Jack - Marie Provost
Chris Gaffney - Crying In My Sleep
Rex Holmes & We Monster- Homewrecker
Steve Wynn - Truth Drug
Ron Flynt & The Blue Hearts - I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock & Roll)
Jamie Hoover - American Squirm
Eugene Edwards - Band The Ugly Things
Greg Trooper - What's Shaking On The Hill
Sparkle*Jets UK - When I Write The Book
James Intveld - Lonesome Reverie
Tiffany Anastasia - Lowe Heart
Duane Jarvis - Cupid Must Be Angry
Robbie Rist - Love So Fine
Kim Shattuck - You Make Me
The Lowe Beats - I Don't Want The Night To End
Monkey Bowl - Let's Eat
The Brilliant Mistakes - Everyone
The Glimmer - Stars Rollers Show
The 'lectric Chairs - Heart Of The City

Is that Nick Lowe's real nose? It looks like a Muppet silhouette.

I think the problem with most tribute albums being done these days is that the artists covering them are people you've never heard of, can hardly play their instruments, and that you would otherwise have no interest hearing from.

Yeh, that's the truth. Although this one has

Eric Ambel
Ian Gomm
Foster & Lloyd
Dave Alvin
Don Dixon
Walter Clevenger
Steve Wynn
Kim Shattuck

but for all I know the rest might be exactly as you described.

If this is who I think it is, the Michael Carpenter that fronted The Finkers, then he's a perfect choice for this song.

Judging from the other International Pop Overthrow Festival regulars on the CD, it's the same guy.

This disc will be mine. I just wish they'd separate the Pop Whackjob Lowe from the Country Gentleman Lowe.
