I gotta hunnert of 'em, but the only one I can think of at the moment is I used to think that there were seeds (like cantelope) under your toe/fingernails.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what this means.

Look at your thumbnail. See that lighter-colored crescent shape closest to your knuckle? It sorta looks like a seed stuck in there. I thought the same thing when I was little.

I was convinced my mother could make me invisible. I'd beg her to make me invisible and then go around the house for hours quietly moving stuff. Now I see she did that just to shut me up. (Invisible people don't talk, you know, cause then you know they're there!!).

Jesus, I can't believe I went this long without remembering one of my biggies:

Everyone knows the old joke, "What's black and white and read all over? A Newspaper!", and the play is off the word read that sounds like red when spoken aloud.

It was "A wounded nun" at our house.

Lots of mispronounciations - like how I always said "Horse D'overs" even though I was already aware of hearing the proper way to say it - it just didn't seem likely to me that they could be the same word.

i had the same problem, except i never said the word. i knew how it seemed that people were saying it, but thought they knew something about some special pronounciation that i didn't. to not be embarrassed, i just avoided the word for many years.

i thought that plants would grow inside of you if you ate the seeds from watermelons or apples. i still have to cut an apple into slices and get rid of every seed before i eat one, but i'm now pretty sure that an appletree wouldn't grow inside of me if i swallowed one.

and this thread sparked something i did to my sister. during the summer, she and i used to watch "the price is right" every morning. when i was maybe 10 and she was 5, i told her that i'd been on a kid's version of "the price is right" and had won a recliner on contestant's row and a small boat before losing in the showcase showdown. when she asked what i'd done with the recliner and boat, i told her i'd sold them since i couldn't take them on the plane home. for years after that, whenever a particular game (i forget which one now) would come up, i'd say something like, "i remember playing this and winning that boat." she told me a couple years ago that she believed me until she was maybe 14 or 15.

Gotcha. I thought that perhaps my anecdote had been replayed in a C&H strip without my express written consent. I know I have more, but I just can't think of them.
