Anybody heard his stuff? What is it like? Can't find any mp3s but have heard a couple of songs of his by other artists and am curious about the source.

Also, has anyone heard the Jenny Toomey album enitrely of Franklin Bruno songs?

Yes - I used to own it. Although I still think "Antidote" is a great album, the Bruno album ("Tempting") is dreadful. The lyrics are cheesy and the arrangements are obnoxious.

I like him quite a lot. He's the leader of Nothing Painted Blue. Modest looking, pudgy professor-type who does lyrically complex happy-sad tunes that aren't reliant on any trends. Has written reviews for Slate, CMJ and other pubs.

Journalist, music writer, college instructor, guests on lots of other artists albums. Has side project Extra Glenns with John Darnielle.

Reviewers use phrases like "timeless wry pop," but he's more complicated than that.

And Nothing Painted Blue should have had more recogniton over the past two decades.
