If you love music half as much as most in here, it will be easier than you thought, I took up ukelele a month ago and I've got
Suspicious Minds~ELVIS
Somewhere Over the Rainbow~Isreal Kumonawannaleiya???
Something~The Beatles
licked already

there are a boatload of resources on the net for chords and all.

you're first step it to learn how to play some basic chords (G, C, D, E, A, F)...sites that tell you how to play those chords are a dime a dozen

but after that, reading the tab on the internet is easy...usually it will just be a lyric sheet with the chord letters over various words to tell you what chord to play at that moment

there's a ton of simple 2 or 3 chord songs out there...I remember Hotel Yorba being pretty easy and I can't really think of any others off the top of my head

simple fun songs anyone?

Just off the top of my head, anything older country (1960s and 1970s) is pretty much based around simple major chords. After all, I think it was George Jones who was quoted as saying "take those minor chords outta there."

Other stuff:
Wilco "Kamera" minus one or two Bm chords is real simple
Almost anything Ramones (not really acoustic but it works)

stuff like that is good for beginners. once you learn minor chords, then things really begin to open up, but learn the majors first.

Not being able to tune my guitar discouraged me from learning how to play. There's one fucking string which just won't tune!

I don't even know where that guitar came from.

I was just going to mention guitarnoise. In my experience it's the best site for learning to play guitar.
