Sounds like my kinda bar. Wish I had gone there when I was there this summer.

Z,

Are you still doing the occasional DJ set?

that's unfortunately been put on hold for awhile. i now have a job that requires me being in the office only a few hours after i'd normally end my last set. i'll probably get another turn or two over the holidays, though.

Sounds cool.

The bar I go to all the time used to have a great jukebox until about 2 months ago. They installed one of those digital deals with a zillion songs.

You'd think more choice would be cool, but it's exactly the opposite. The whole vibe of the bar has changed and people end up playing the crappiest music you can think of. It's really disappointing.

I'm in Chicago every few weeks on business and usually hang out in the same bars each time - not very exciting.

Last night I ventured out of my comfort zone and a group of us hit a bar in the River North area called Motel Bar - it was totally accidental as we were really looking for a sushi place nearby.

The place is great -first thing that hits me is the music being played - An Eels song first - then Jesus and Mary Chain - then Husker Du - then the Walkmen - and so on...

The bartender pointed me in the direction of the jukebox - quite possibly the best jukebox selections I have ever seen.

The bar has a relaxed 60's lounge vibe and they specialize in old time cocktails at reasonable prices (I had a Manhattan and a Tom Collins amongst several cocktails) - very laid back and comfy with great tunes.

Just thought I'd share.

one of my good friends bartends there. pretty nice joint.
