It is widely known that dogs have good ears. Using a very scientific method(I watch her), I have found that my dog likes some CDs and not others, she rolls over on the floor and writhes around kicking her feet in the air ala Snoopy to the following recordings:

The first half of OK Computer
Manu Chao's Esperanza
Beastie Boys Check your Head
Emiliana Torrini's Love in The Time Of Science (this needs to be confirmed as I was making sausages and eggs at the time)
The second half of Poi Dog Pondering's Pomagranate

more on this as it develops

Yeah, my dog seems to gets a kick out of Poi Dog Pondering, too. Also, Uncle Tupelo, Housemartins and The Specials. Not sure why.

I miss the Specials, all of mine was on vinyl and Old Man Sea took 'em

(Salt and heat are not kind to records)

I had a Hound Dog that howled when I played country music. My current mongrel, Oscar, just sits near me when I play my guitar.

The dogs instantly crash when I sit on the porch with my ukelele. Maybe this is bad.

Have you tried the Zappa kids' "Music For Pets"?

Well, you said you were up the shore at Capt. Morgan's, so I bet you didn't get into town much.

When I was little, and I put on any kind of animal show on TV, my two cats would just stop sit there and watch non stop....All day long...It was surreal....

change the channel, and they were gone..... it didnt matter what animals were on either.

This whole theory works with kids, too.
They like what they like and will tell you so.

If I played a HoP song that they don't like, they'll say, "Daddy, this is bad."
I am very proud that they like most of the songs on that disc.
:)

But they see nothing paradoxical about loving both The Ramones and Rush; or Smashmouth and Operation Ivy. They just like the songs they like and they will tell you so.

Pets and kids: Excellent sources of both unconditional love and completely candid commentary on the arts.

Good stuff.

Ha, my lab does this too, except she has dry skin on her butt, and that's how she "scratches" her backside when Mr. dnorwood and I aren't willing to do it for her.

On another note, the lab also reacts very strongly to: dogs barking on tv, sirens of all kinds and the ice cream truck. My other dog, strangely enough, can see dogs and other animals on tv, and gets very excited when he sees them. He'll actually hop up and down, and in the beginning when we first started noticing this behavior, actually put his nose on the tv trying to sniff the other animal.

Never in a thread about the Beach Boys would you get
"She has dry skin on her butt"

well, maybe in a discussion of Brian's fatter times.
