So a friend of mine works at The Weather Channel and he was talking to the dude that does the music for Local On The 8's. Apparentley he's looking for some newer, "hipper" music. He asked for my suggestions. these songs connot contain any vocals at all and must be at least 1:30 long.

Please add your's and I'll send them to him.

Here's what I sent him just to start:

Crockett’s Theme from Miami Vice

Custom Concern (Instrumental) – Modest Mouse – The Moon and Antartica

Instrumental – Faith No More – Who Cares A Lot? (Greatest Hits)

I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow – John Hartford – O Brother, Where Art Thou?

New Orleans Instrumental No. 1 – R.E.M. – Automatic For the People

Yoga Means Union – Ambulance LTD – LP

POW – The Beastie Boys – Check Your Head

And?...

There's also "Woodpecker from Mars" and that instrumental at the end of Angel Dust

"Bubblehouse" and tons of other songs by Medeski Martin & Wood.

I'll think of some more when I get home.

Anything and everything by Huevos Rancheros.

The Soft Boys also have some killer instrumentals. This just might have inspired a mix.

Split Enz have several fantastic instrumentals, "Double Happy" being my favourite.

Depeche Mode, "Excerpts from..." and "Further Excerpts from My Secret Garden"

Oh yeah: lots of Tortoise and stuff

See also: Tristeza, Album Leaf, Rachel's, Dirty Three

Of course, much of that won't update his sound much.

Pretty much anything by Tangerine Dream.

I have definitely heard Phish played on the Weather Channel before. "The Inlaw Josie Wales" comes to mind.
