whats the word on this? i saw a trailer for this when i went to see closer, which i thought was odd, since i thought it came out a little while ago, but maybe its in re-release in canada, i dont know. it looked great, but i heard a little bit about it a while ago and nothing since.

It's out on video right now. I think there's even 2 dvds worth of stuff. The music is really great in that kind of django reinhart kind of way.

The movie is really cute (if I can say that without getting my ass kicked). There's little to no dialogue and the animation is fantastic. There's some 2D and 3D stuff in there. Go out and rent it, you won't be disappointed.

Would kids want to sit through it? Is it safe for a 5 year old?

I really liked it.

Your five year old would need to be okay with seeing:
eating live frogs
a non-main character being (implied) shot in the head
a general kidnap theme

Agreed. Quirky and kinda fun, but... Totally inconsequential plot. If you're intrigued, rent it.

It is worth checking out but is the kind of movie people say they like for fear of seeming unhip.

i liked the concept, animation, and music, but it kinda dragged on with hardly any dialogue. the kids in the theater where i saw it were getting chatty halfway through.

the animation is fantastic -- 10 for style points. its magical in a kinda un-glittery way. slow, yes. kids will get bored. its a cute story.
