Yeah yeah yeah, Liquid Soul, Blah blah blah, whaddaya mean Mid-fucking-night till 4 in the fucking morning? FUCK THAT!
Normally, I'd say you're absolutely correct, but tonight would be an exception.
We've got this kid we met in Colorado, little 21 year old named Dave Arredondo, originally from San Diego, and the 15 minutes we saw of him rock a stage is the reason we flew him out here to guest on our album and rock with us tonight. I could describe him and what he does, and I've tried on numerous occasions to friends here, but everyone who's seen him agrees that you just can't explain it. It's beat boxing, but not like your little brother does.
It's the sickest drumnbass/house/techno/hiphop/breakbeats and he'll keep a bass line or a melody going at the same time. Big deal, you can see Rahzel do that with The Roots. O.k., let's toss in some sick ass harmonica playing WHILE he's beatboxing and keeping a bass line or a melody. Maybe some Mongolian Tuvan Throat Singing while he's doing some combination of the aforementioned. Add to that a musical sensibility of what's right for the song and what will get a crowd's dick hard, and tonight, well tonight is gonna be some SICK ASS SHIT.
No excuses. Quitcher whining. I just taught all day, i'm headed to the studio, rehearsal, load in, soundcheck, and then the gig. When that's all done, i gotta drop my gear back at the studio, then it's straight to another day of teaching, so seriously, suck it up for a night. Come out for one set, be in bed before 2:00.
I'm pretty sure i can count the number of chicago obners who've come out to see me play with L.S. on zero fingers (i might be wrong, but i doubt it). Aaron and Katie don't count cause they've only seen me in NYC, and after they moved there.
Also, DJ Logic will be with us sometime in early December, so there's your fair warning to nap ahead of time. Yeah, he'll be on the album too.
No. fucking. excuses.
This is for your own musical good.
